Watch. 16 months from now, if he is still with the team, he will have been ok, but not a hall-of-famer, so some of the same people that are his biggest new fans now will be ready to run him out of town on a fencepost.
I don't have high expectations for Udoka.
However, last time I've checked, Spurs have won the last championship quite easily.
Udoka isn't a great player but he could provide some solid defense, hustle, grab some rebounds and shoot some 3's. Udoka's slight impact will maybe be the thing that will allow Spurs to repeat.
Udoka is far from being a savior but Spurs don't need one. Spurs need some minor tweaking and Udoka seems to be a good one.

I do not expect him to put up impressive stats
I expect something along the lines of bowen and close to his d
Bowen was the most important player to this team outside the big 3....
To expect Udoka to be Bowen with slightly less D is STILL a stretch.
not me but i'm lovin it. i used the Blazers on2k7 the game and udoko always played well 4 me. plus i saw the games the spurs played against the blazers.
heres to udoka playin well![]()
Udoka will impress you....that is if you don't expect the world of him. He is not a guy to put on your fantasy team even if he was starting. You won't see the impact this guy has on the stat sheet. But role players, like Udoka, are what separates San Antonio from other good or great teams. Udoka is a spectacular signing for the price.
Just don't jump on his nuts when he has a big game and hits clutch threes and expect it from him. It won't happen every night, but it will happen.
my cousin shannon is a Portland native and she really liked Udoka. says that he will be missed up there
thats a good way too look @ it TGFantastic, i agree
A guy who can play great defense, shoot the three, and is a good guy.
Pardon us for being excited.
I think that Udoka was one of the best signings of the off-season by any team. Why? Value and need. Heres why:
Value: In the offseason that saw Rashard Lewis warrant a max contract, coupled by Toronto's overpaying for one-dimensional shooter Jason Kapono, the signing of Ime Udoka seems a downright steal. For 1M a year the Spurs remain flexible under the cap while also protecting themselves against the "bust-factor" if Udoka does not pan out (making him quite low risk, high reward).
Need: With Bruce Bowen, Brent Barry and Michael Finley coming off the books next season (and Ginobili turning 29), and considering the difficulty in learning the Spurs system (generally requiring a year to become functional in it) it seemed that the Spurs absolutely had to sign another wing player...if only to shelf them for a year. With the failure of the James White project, that became very necessary. Ime Udoka filled that need and in an ideal way. While James White seemed promising, he was not an ideal fit. Udoka offers everything that the Spurs staff tends to like: veteran player with poise, 3 point shooter, defensive specialist with an enduring work ethic and workman's at ude.
My expectations: My expectations for next season are that Udoka assume the primary back-up SF position and provide quality defense (and shooting) when Bowen is off the floor. He can provide defensive teeth on the wing for the Spurs reserves and learn under Bowen. If he could average 5-6 PPG and 3 RPG in about 25MPG I would be happy with his statline. But, like Bowen, the stats are simply a bonus. It is his defense (the unrecorded stats) that I'm interested in. And if he has scoreless nights that showcased strong defensive effort, I will have no issue with him. Next year I simply want him to learn the system and provide his defensive effort to the second unit. Anything further is gravy.
Of the Blazers starters that some around here have wanted, I'm glad the Spurs got Udoka...
I live in Portland now and watched Udoka play a lot last year, on TV and in person. He defended Lebron very well when the Cavs came to town. For 1-2 million a year he is a complete steal.
I distinctly remember one particular road game the Spurs played in Portland during this past season. Udoka had a pretty good game. I remember him contributing several buckets, various hustle plays, a steal or two, rebounding and some tenacious defense. In fact, it was his play, during one second quarter sequence, that indirectly led to oe particular timeout.
Now I don't want to drum up a bunch of hype because the Blazers did lose the game and this was just one isolated game during the course of the season, but Udoka's play was impressive. I wondered at the time who the this guy was.
Personally, I like his skill set and am glad he's on our team.
Hedo > Barry?
You're delusional
Draw a few plays up for him to use in the playoffs like Pop did for Vaughn, then eveyone not a Spurs fan with a mike will use Walton-like praises to describe his game and the savvy of the Spurs FO .![]()
After Beno's idiotic comments in the Slovenian Post I think it's only a matter of time. Barry's contract is hard to move and he was a starter for half the season. Great complement to Findley. Ime will take some pressure of both Manu and Bruce even for 12 minutes/game. Jezz, the Lakers gave 14 mill to Fisher. Imagine if our FO made that move.
ducks,
you're a ing idiot. Do you know that? you continue to amaze me on how you can top stupid every ing day.
