Why are people assuming it is Beno who would be gone-- it could be Barry! It is certainly better financially to trade away Barry than Beno- plus a move of Barry makes room in the rotation for Udoka. Beno could play at the 2.

Having a short, fat sloth at shooting guard wouldn't go over too well in the NBA. Maybe if Beno would get halfway in shape and the Spurs had a big point to put next to him, then it'd make somewhat sense.

But as is, signing Hudson without getting rid of Beno first makes no sense.

If signing Hudson means dumping Beno, then bring it on.

    Dog > Beno

Didn't Hudson once light us up for something like 25 in a quarter? I remember the game and he was out of his skull. Jacking 3s. Hitting runners. It was unbelievable. He looked like a video game.

I haven't seen Troy Hudson play well in a while. He had game, a few years ago but now he may not be any better than NVE was on his last legs. 'Probably isn't.

You guys are exaggerating Beno's game, as well. Beno is a decent player and he just needs the right situation to play to his potential. He's not a strong defender, nor strong with the ball and he hasn't seemed to care about improving those aspects. When Pop asked Beno to pick his man up full court, he picked his man up at 3/4 court or 2/3 court. Not good. However, he is not scrap-heap material by any means. He is a very skilled player, a good passer and he shoots well when he has confidence. Let's not forget that.

Beno is only going to play PG in this system and we don't need a fourth-string PG, if he even could be considered that. Beno is so full of failure at this point that I do this signing just to dump him. He's too fat and lazy to be a PG, he won't do any good at any other position. With Beno's awesome 25% 3pt accuracy I'd rather not see him ever play at SG anyways.

Beno pulled 27% 3 pt accuracy and 37% FG. He's done in San Antonio. Nick the Quick put up better numbers in his last season than Beno did.

And Beno's rookie year he had the best 3 FG% on the team.

My point was simply that if the Spurs are looking to save money, they could save more by moving Barry- who also is presumably more desirable by other teams. If they want room for Udoka, as well as cash possibly for Williams and Ian, moving Barry potentially does that more than moving Beno.

People also assume that somehow the Spurs can magically trade Beno for nothing- but don't you think they would have done that by now if they could? The Spurs have tried to trade Beno for a draft pick to no avail for 3 drafts nights.

On this team 31 isn't old. I'd take Hudson with pleasure, if he can find some playing time, the dude can light it up.

I think he is an excellent position to rejuvenate his career with the Spurs.

Too bad Beno decided to have his career season his rookie year. And I agree, nobody wants him - so why should we keep him, either?

At least when you pay Barry, you get a guy who will occasionally contribute something beside waving a towel sitting on the bench.

For all the people calling him a low percentage chucker...

Pop gives his shooters (Barry, Fin, Manu, Bowen) the green light to launch if at all open. Don't think, shoot.

He doesn't give that to TP (from the 3 point line anyway) and makes sure TP does his due diligence before taking a shot.

Everyone else, they know where they are allowed to shoot from if open. This guy would be no different. Pop puts guys in position to do well. Makes the rules clear what you can't do and let's you do everything you do well. And the looks this guy will get from his sweet spots will be the best he's ever gotten (with TD, Manu and TP clearing the way).

I'm not worried about that at all. I'm only worried about if he's in shape and healthy enough to do what he can really help us do on defense and reliable with the ball in his hands. If he can be trusted out there, it's an upgrade over Beno, whether he gets the #2 spot (over Vaughn) or not.

Btw, how good is Hudson at finishing at the basket? I hope he's good, because running a pick and roll with TD is like nothing he's ever done, it's going to be an open drive to the lane with the beaten big trying to reach back and block his shot. If he can accelerate the the basket and elevate well to finish, he won't be launching too much from the perimeter anyway. The Spurs don't have launching PGs. They all drive because it's always there. They all get to the basket because it's always there. And they all run pick and rolls with TD and he gets a lot of attention.

If this turns out to be true, it's a decent signing. He's a veteran player with a history of some success in the NBA, when you look at his career numbers he's fairly similar to Chucky Atkins (a guy who a lot of people were advocating signing). A reasonable, probably low-risk signing, that has the potential to strengthen the bench and add some more scoring punch. We already have a known commodity at back-up in Vaughn.

Unbelievably, even at this point in his career, he has more upside for the Spurs than Beno.

No, it looks like the radio host jumped the gun or simply misread his articles this morning. But regardless, the Spurs do have obvious interest as Hudson worked out for the team yesterday.

Only first and second year players can be assigned to the NBDL. I don't know how many times this has to be said.
