DMB is awesome no doubt but Nas is one of the Top Storytellers of my generation. his rhymes are insanely creative and just paints a picture that i can imagine what radio in the 30-40s was like bcuz his rhymes r so vivid.
Sure they are.

O'Reilly is a ing idiot, I laugh at people who actually agree with what he says. I love the trinkets he sells on his website too. How many re s walk around with "The Spin Stops Here" coffee cup?
They invited Nas.
I hope you were joking
I hope you're joking about asking me if i was joking
yup, and he should turn it down, he'd save himself from looking like the lesser talentled "musician"
edit:
and not to mention his musics' message is in conflict with what is going to take place at VT
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, plz shut up.
go listen to ur cRAP
anyone that thinks Dave Matthews is good has no right to call anything else crap. I don't even care for Nas, but I hate Dave Matthews and will devote my life to letting every frat boy and 20-something chick know that he isn't a god of music like they worship him to be. Crappy lyrics and predictable music, thats Dave Matthews in a nuts . Mabye if Dave Matthews grew a pair of nuts and stopped being such pussy people would take him with credibility; but as of now the only people who do are middle aged women who listen to top 40, frat boys who liked rap their whole life and think that Dave Matthews is the perfect soundtrack to get drunk to, or people who think that anyone who can play guitar during a 15 minute song is a genius. DMB is just overrated, top 40- jam band bull .
read this about DMB

And to think guys like this use my name for an alias. *sigh*
Dave Matthews is neither as good nor as bad as a lot of people think.
I actually enjoy his first few albums, but I think a lot of his fans and his haters have formed an opinion of him based on the social group his music is often associated with. And that's kind of silly.
Gee, you mean like rap?
actually, crap is what DMB gives to their fans, literally.
remember this? http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive...atthews_1.html
that's what i think.
i remember that.
For the most part... Except I would argue that the thematic elements of a lot of rap perpetuate the link.
Dave Matthews, on the other hand, doesn't have any "let's get a few kegs and try to bang some freshman chicks" songs in his discography that I'm aware of.
It's hard to find DMB lyrics, even out of context, where you can go "See? He's glorifying the fratboy bag lifestyle!"

Wow, this take is so far off base its frightening. Fan or not of his music and / or fanbase...He and his entire band are absolutely fantastic muscians. There is not one person in his band would could be considered anything less than a top 5, in whatever instrument they play. They have MASSIVE song arrangments a lot of times, that are on par with orchestra level stuff. There is zero argument you can bring up that these guys are overrated muscians...none at all. Have you heard their drummer for god sake? it is seriously insane how good he is. Have you ever seen or heard them just freestyle on stage for 10 minutes, and how great they play together...that is not shoddy muscianship, its a boat load of talent.
His lyrics are impecable for the most part. I think he is one of the best lyricists around right now. He has fantastic topics, great structure to how he presents them...its a very far longshot to call him a bad lyricist...but at least this is more opinion then fact.
I dont necessiarly fit into the 40+ crowd or the fratboy crowd, and i could see you not liking that whole scene, but that has nothing to do with dave mathews or his band. I actually grew up as a fan of a lot of britrock, Stone Roses, Oasis, Charlatans, etc...I love pop, and electronica....but I am also a fan of good music in general...whether that be rock, country, salsa, rap, chanting, whatever...i like good music and well put together songs...therefore i really like dave mathews.
Thats why I hate Dave Matthews Band fans, they think that their band is some All-star band of musicians becuase they take a 4 minute song and turn it into a 15 minute jam. Just because DMB has a sax player in their band doesn't make them groundbreaking. As for top 5....I can name 250 better axeman than anyone in DMB, I can name 100 better drummers, and I can name 100 better bass players. Since I don't have time here are some lists, and suprisingly there are no DMB band members in the top 100, let alone the top 5.

Please go to a Pearl Jam show then tell me about how great the Dave Matthews freestyle is
Wow, you really hate DMB fans.
Agree with Thunder Dan. Calling all DMB musicians top 5 is a lonnnnnnnnnng stretch.
Pearl Jam is insanely good live too...but you seriously cannot take a knock at DMB as musicians.
Those lists are seriously lacking...How can you mention Alan White from oasis as an Honorable Mention, and have no mention of Carter Beuford, not even in honorable mention.
Hate the band and the fans all you want, but wow, he is seriously really really good.
the thread goes from a legit thing to a "rap sucks, no your music is tupid" arguement.
I dont know. I have 3 DMB albums, and have seen them in concert twice. The reason I hate them is because people who like them think they have unlocked the secret to life by listening to DMB. They are fooled into thinking that DMB is the bees knees of musicl; when in fact, most of these people don't even listen to anything that resembles decent music.
I had a friend try to argue with me that DMB is better than the Rolling Stones, and that they are on par with the Beatles. This is how these crazy people think. They are fooled into thinking that DMB created their genre--which they didn't, Grateful Dead and Phish did-- and they also think that because a bunch of other people are crazy just like them that they are correct with their thinking.
lol...how can you have ringo star in the top 50....
the beatles were a great band, but the drums were seriously not very tough...i think my little sister could have played drums for the beatles.
the guy only had like 3 drums total...
