Hey mouse, does it bother you that you are nearly less respected on an internet forum then you are in real life?

That would bug the out of me if even my "virtual" pals thought I was a worthless human.

One of my former business partners just died of Lou Gerhig's last month. He was 52 and still has daughters in high school and college. He was a model athlete until about 2 years ago when the disease struck. Unlike a lot of these neurological illnesses there is really no way to keep the symptoms in check and you deteriorate pretty quickly. It was sad to witness his decline but he never was bitter about it...he was an awesome guy.

Anyway, this is definitely a worthwhile cause and I'd love to see them discover a cure.

My ex brother-in-law has had ALS for about 15 years now. They predicted his death many times, many years ago. Now they are just scratching their heads. He has been wheelchair-bound all these years, and up until just recently was able to do artwork with his mouth via his computer. The really cruel aspect of this disease is that your mind still works, although it's hard for others to comprehend that it does due to the condition of your body. I wish they'd find a cure...........this telethon has been going on for years, with millions upon millions of dollars raised--so frustrating that no cure has been found.

    they have made progress though

this telethon not only pays for research, it also pays for summer camps for kids striken with the disease so they can get a break from day to day life and what not.

There are lots of articles that say it, I picked this because it talks about the Chase donation T Park mentioned.

MDA Welcomes Chase As Sponsor Of Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, USA

Chase Card Services, the credit card division of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) formed a new alliance. Chase is now a national sponsor of the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon.

With this commitment, Chase will donate $5 to MDA for every donation made by viewers during the Telethon using a Chase credit card, with a maximum contribution by Chase of $150,000. Chase offers a selection of credit cards under Visa and MasterCard.

Telethon pledges and contributions in 2006 amounted to more than $61 million in support of MDA. More than 77.4 percent of MDA's income is dedicated to programs of research, services and education for families affected by muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. MDA National Chairman and Telethon star Jerry Lewis said Chase's sponsorship is tremendous news for MDA.

"A financial ins ution with the prestige and national presence of Chase conveys added stature and importance to MDA's lifesaving mission," Lewis said. "Every extra dollar raised presents added opportunity to help 'my kids' win their battle against devastating diseases."

"Chase is honored to be a national sponsor of this year's Telethon to demonstrate our support of the MDA's longstanding research and education efforts to defeat neuromuscular diseases," said Jim Peterson, executive vice president, Marketing, Chase Card Services. "With this sponsorship, we've also established a convenient way for our cardholders to support this worthy cause."

The Telethon will be broadcast beginning at 9 p.m. EDT Sept. 2 from the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in Las Vegas. The 21½-hour show, combining entertainment and information about neuromuscular diseases, will be carried by MDA's 190 "Love Network" stations nationwide. It also can be viewed on MDA's Web site, http://www.mda.org, via RealNetworks.
