Yeah, he had long arms for sure. Had a deceptively quick and high vertical for a man his size as well.
Beno on Dirk.

Yeah, if only he'd laid off the jumpshot in his last couple of years I guess my memories of him would be fonder. Certainly he was a great energy player for us for all those years, and at his best in 2001-2 and 2-3:

Still, I really like him and must go to his restaurant next year when I'm in SA just for the of it.
Or that one by rasheed on sean on memorial day....oh wait
No doubt about it...Malik rejecting Shawn Bradley in the 2003 WCFs.
i saw a couple of Malik's ones yesterday.. and yes... the guy was awesome... and there are a couple of sick ones...
George Johnson blocking himself on the rim while trying to power in a layup over Calvin Murphy. Still, the cocaine flowed like wine in the dressing room after the game. Those were the days!
Duncan blocking LeBron in game 1. My favorite recent one anyway. That really sent a message, and vindicated Duncan of the horrible posterizing he got by LBJ in the second game of the season. Mr. November, meet Mr. June.
The Horry block on Iverson is a close second.
Sean Elliott blocking Patrick Ewing in the Hemisphere was my all time favorite.
Ben Wallace on Shaq
Heat v. Pistons
Game 5 of the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals.
Just because Shaq is such a beast, and I don't think anybody has done him as dirty as this:

That's a smackdown!
Speaking of former Spur George Johnson, he led the NBA in blocked shots for two straight seasons while with the Spurs.

that was a good one but NOT DONE BY A SPUR...
i know u can come up with a D-Rob in the all time ones along with that one...![]()
Wasn't as good as Steve Smith's on Shaq in game 7 of 2000.
Yeah, my bust. I guess I had selective reading this morning.
no problem buddy... i always liked your signature photo.. i am a Spurs fan because of the admiral myself.. in 1995 everybody here in my country talked about Jordan and bla bla bla.... then i saw a Spurs game.. when i saw him.. i knew instantaneously that i was going to be a Spur the rest of my life.. and i envy you... u had the chance to meet him... wish i could do that one day... i don;t think i'd be able to talk to him though...![]()
What, no mention of a Rasho block?
Actually, he did have a sweet one where he blocked Kobe from dunking. Not my favorite, but it sure put a smile on my face.
Someone used to have a gif of that in their signature. That was pretty sweet.
If Duncan is slow, what are Shaq and Yao?
Duncan runs the court extremely well for a big post player.
I would really like to know your explanation for how Duncan is slow and yet manages to get 5+ blocks in playoff games with regularity.
Maybe.
But damn he has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, doesn't he?
Whether for a tip-in, a lay up, or a block.
And he's in the right place in June a lot.![]()
He sure is, wasn't trying to put him down, he's a smart defender not an athletic one. He looked like he couldn't get out of the way fast enough is all.
And that's most of his brilliance.
He's never relied on athleticism, his hops weren't that great 10 years ago. Though he could move a little faster.![]()
Good lord.
Just because Duncan doesn't run a 4.4 40 doesn't mean he's a lumbering oaf. Watch his hands. They're lightning quick and he can adjust his body amazingly well for a big man. Footspeed isn't the only thing in the world that determines how fast a person can move within a confined space. There is no way in that Duncan would get a single block if he didn't possess a measure of speed.
*Except for rare moments of hilarity when someone like Antione Walker or Allen Iverson forgets that he exists and dives into the lane to put a floater up in the air from their shoulders.
^Lmao no one in the nba has slow reflexes, some are just quicker on their feet than others
Or in this case, one big man is a half step quicker than another.
