Just use WMM.

I compressed a 550 meg video to 93 megs, and it lost very little if any quality.

Download link is all the way at the bottom, I use this and love it fast and easy, will do widescreen also with no problem. I can get huge files way under 100mb. Not sure if it's vista usable for sure. O-yea it's free too.

if you use that put the Video scaled size at 320 : 240 for regular video and 320 : 176 for wide screen and set the Frame/sec at 30.

Start with a high bitrate kbps, and if the MB is too large just drop it a bit.

I encode it mpeg 2 because My other "trim" program works well with it, but youtube recommends mpeg4, divx or xvid and thoses option are on the drop down menu at the top.
mpeg 2 looks fine to me on youtube.
