I started watching 24 when season 4 started. I went through season 1 and 2 in a week and a half thanks to my last job. I was addicted. Season 3 took me a month, but finished it just in time to see the Finale of 4.

I started watching during season 2. It seems that the concensus on IMDB is that most people's favorite season is the season that started them off with 24. Season 2 imo was the most edge of your seat if you ask me.
