Oh yea, how could I forget, make sure to go to the Ed Sullivan Theater.

I've seen Dave Letterman twice there. Just hang out and ask for tickets. It's a blast if you get some tickets.

Also, go to Rockefeller Plaza and try to get tickets to the Conan O'Brian show. You have to get there early in the morning for those.

I went and tried getting tix for Conan and got stuck with tickets for Last Call with Carson Daily. Man did that suck. The guests were Meadow Soprano, Jamie Oliver (some chef I think), and Usher/Little John. It was filmed in the same studio as SNL so that was alright I guess, but man did the show itself suck.

I got the call for Letterman tickets, but since I don't watch him often I didn't know the triva question to get the tickets.

I was there for 8 days last June. The Empire State Building is expensive and often a long line. A guide book told us the Rockefeller bldg gives the same experience, is cheaper, no/shorter line.

Ellis Island was great, Liberty Statue was long wait, so we just walked around the grounds.

    NY Public library.

    The Met

Ferry to Staten Island (free) to see NY from the water, then walk along the lower east side water front, Battery Park.

    Central Park

Check with your hotel concierge about bus/boat packages. I was there in July, and I got a $50 - 48 hour pass on the tour bus, which was hop on/off throughout the city. It also included a boat tour by the Statue of Liberty/Ground Zero. It's really cheap transportation, and it takes you to any borough. Also, don't be afraid of the subway - it's quick and cheap.

And for the Seinfeld diner, it's Tom's restaurant on Broadway and 112th.

Please go see the ASSSSCAT 3000 show (runs every Sunday night) at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. It's a long form improv show performed to a very small audience. The first show is only $8 and the second show is free! You're guaranteed to see a few SNLers performing. The times that I've gone I've seen Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, Horatio Sanz, Amy Poller and many other folks that I recognized from tv and movies. A few friends of mine were lucky enough to see Will Ferrell performing there one night.

I saw the ASSSSCAT for the first time in 2001 and now it's at the top of my list whenever I'm in NYC. You won't be disappointed.

I've been to China Town only twice.

It's the dirtiest, raunchiest place ever.

I would skip it. It's just one huge flea market, and it stinks like .

I've been a few times the past several years.

    in no particular order.

central park, museum of natural history, broadway show, times square, little italy to eat, china town to stroll, washington square and get a slice of rays famous, ferry to staten island to see Statue of Liberty, wall street, empire state building.

do lots of shopping and eating and just walk.

    Do you have kids?

If so, go to the Toy R US store on 44 and Bway and the FAO Schwartz on 59 and 5th Ave.

If you don't have kids but are a kid at heart, go anyways.

You can have a milkshake at the Serendipity bar. Its somewhere in the low 60s between Madison and Lexinton.

If you are into comics, there is a great place on 38 and 8th ave.

If you are into porn, 8th ave is you avenue

Soho is a great place to walk around, as is Little Italy and the West and East Villages.

Isabella's is a nice place to have a brunch on Saturday or Sunday morning (77 and Colombus).

If you like Museums but you are not into art, go to the Museum of Natural History, on CPW between 79 and 81.

The Bronx Zoo is ok but not great.

Brooklyn Heights is very nice, especially the riverwalk at night to catch the Manhattan skyline.

Here is what my friend that I am visiting sent me on must do's and other options, what do you guys recommend from the maybe list

    MUST do...then I would say:

    1) Ground Zero
    2) Battery Park - this is actually really close to ground zero. We can do them both at the same time. Battery Park is where you can take the ferry to Staten Island, Ellis Island, or the Statue of Liberty. Different Ferry's take us to different places. We probably won't be able to do all three, but we should at least go to one of them. The Staten Island Ferry is free, usually has no lines, and passes fairly close to the statue of liberty and ellis island. The other ferries cost about $10-$15 and take you directly to the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island. If we get there early, the lines are short.
    3) Central Park
    4) Times Square

As for optional things...there are a ton:

    a) Brooklyn Bridge - you can actually walk across it
    b) St Patrick's Cathedral - One of the oldest catholic churches and probably the most impressive architecture I've seen in the US
    c) 5th Ave - home to all the high end shopping and some cool stores too (Tiffany, Cartier, Saks, Niketown, Trump Plaza, NBA store)
    d) Rockefeller Center - the Today show records here, has the outdoor ice skating, and you can go to the top and look out over the city
    e) Empire State Building - you can go to the top and look out over the city. Visibility is usually 25-50 miles.
    f) Scores
    g) Basketball at Madison Square Garden or the Meadowlands - both the Knicks and Nets have home games during your time in NY
    h) Hopefully, the Dallas/Giants game if I can get tickets
    i) Seinfeld places - the comedy club he performs at, the diner, and the soup nazi. Seinfeld took place on the Upper West Side (which is where I live), so there could be more
    j) Riverside Park - another park close to my apartment that has a view of the Hudson River and New Jersey
    k) Grand Central Station - we'll probably end up here anyway, since we'll be taking the subway everywhere
    l) Madison Square Garden
    m) Yankee Stadium (in the Bronx)
    n) Shea Stadium (in Queens)
    o) James Coney Island (in Brooklyn)
    p) China Town - you can buy great quality "fake" purses here for female friends and family. I'm sure they things for guys too...shirts, wallets, ties.
    q) The New York Public Library
    r) Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange - also close by is the federal building where George Washington was sworn in as the first president. Alexander Hamilton is buried at a church near Wall St also.
    s) A broadway show - there are tons of great shows and we can get cheap tickets at a stand in Times Square. Claire Danes, Jennifer Garner, David Hyde Pierce are all performing in shows right now.
