He was a volleyball player.
ESPN needs to get their info right.
Mahinmi wasn't a volley ball player, he played soccer.
ESPN has made a mistake during the draft night and has mixed Mahinmi with another French player called Sidiki Sidibe.
Mahinmi has played soccer when he was young like tons of young guys in France. He has given up the soccer to play BB when he was 13 years old.
Sidiki Sidibe played volley ball at a very high level. He was the captain of French youth NT. When he was 18 years old, he decided to leave the volleyball to play basketball. He is an athletic freak but has no BB skills. He has been undrafted in the last draft.
+1
Sidiki now plays in Spain for the "Real Madrid" young team in LEB2. He didn't show any sign that he could become a true BB player. Sidiki is supposed to have a Shaq-like body but I don't know if he is really that athletic.
Can someone in San Antonio please provide the correct pronounciation of Ian Mahinmi?
Heard ESPN last night using Muh-hin-me...so is that correct?
during game action Bill Schoening dropped the 'm' and pronounced it "Ma-hee-nee", but during stoppages in play he would pronounce it "Ma-heen-mee".
He also during play would pronounce Rafer Alston's name as "Austin".
I spent most of the first quarter after I missed the intros trying to figure out what happened to all of the Rockets point guards and who this new "Austin" guy was that was filling in at point.
