That was the Rockies' only hope (slim as it was). I really expected Beckett to lose the strike zone after sitting that long. He didn't, and let's face it, 12 runs is an almost insurmountable lead for an NL team to overcome.
Sort of off-topic: Who do think is hurt by the DH rule more? AL pitchers by and large are useless with a bat, and the AL team loses one of their best (if not the best) hitter. OTOH, NL teams usually don't have guys like Ortiz, Thome, or Sheffield sitting on their benches waiting for interleague play to roll around again. It seems to me that it hurts the NL more, especially since the AL has had home field advantage locked up in recent years. There are only a few NL pitchers that are decent with a bat, anyway.
When Gagne came in to pitch the 9th I thought the Rockies had a chance.

Schilling dodges another bullet, keeps his lead with great relief in the 6th. Now he can get the W, if Boston can hold Colorado scoreless from here on.
