Make sure you open up a new account now like he did and you'll be ok. It won't show up on your credit report but it will be reported to banking agencys like efunds and chex.
Funny how you people seem to overlook the fact that it is because of "scams" like this we all pay higher fees and receive lower dividends from our banking ins utions.
It is real money that didn't belong to you. It didn't belong to the bank either.
Simple sir,
The wasn't yours.
You knew that wasn't yours.
You spent it.
Now the people it belongs to want it back.
So give it up now.
I work at a financial ins ution and I'll tell you what. I would take that right out of your account, put you in the negative and report you all in the same day. Then I would call you and ask you what kind of payment arrangements you'd like to make. If your answer is none. So be it. You from that point forward would not be able to open a checking somewhere else until you clear up the negative balance with us.
Happy Banking! Hope you enjoy your new savings only account!
I hate to pass judgement, but working with this stuff all day long only makes me want to call you a loser. You knew it wasn't yours and you knew the right answer to your original question. Which is why you consulted others to try to pursuade you to do what you knew was wrong. When asking people what you should do, why didn't you ask a banking official or an attorney? Oh, I know.....BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WANT THE RIGHT ANSWER. You wanted validation on the WRONG answer.......

Hey 3rdcoast, like I said before.. a buddy of mine named Mike Martinez can set you up with the pre-paid legal law firm Ross and Matthews based out of Dallas . Ill PM you his number to see if there is anything they might be able to do for you.
YIKES!!
Can you say "this thinks all the money in the bank is her money?" lol
This is exactly the type of person you're going to be dealing with when you try to work something out with the bank, so be warned. Remember, they have a right to be like this because they see your situation as you taking their money, not a bank error occuring on your behalf like you drew a chance card in Monopoly. Good luck with whatever you plan on doing.Simple sir,

Sounds like something your told when your a child.Be honest and dont ing take whats not yours.
But I digress.
But is she wrong? He spent money that he was 100% certain didn't belong to him....and it obviously belonged to someone who'd be looking for it. No matter how tempting it might have been, I'd have called the bank anyway because I know for a fact I don't have that kind of luck. They'd find me, too.![]()
No, she isn't wrong. All I was saying was don't expect someone sympathetic to this situation to be helping out.
I admire all of you that say they would call the bank immediately. Right now, I would too. But when I was 20-21 years old and I'd never had over a $1500 balance in my life, bills past due living in a hole apartment, working for tips and going to school, I spent the money when this happened to me. I'm not saying it is right or anything.
It really is easy for us to Monday Morning Quarterback....if it seems that way. But you're right SW. Maybe they won't be as rude...But is she wrong?
