Our desks are about 5 feet apart in the same room. Most of the time if we are talking about basketball to each other on the forum, we are already discussing it out loud in "real life." We are just letting everyone else in our conversation by posting it
As for why we use Yahoo IM to each other (which people find funny) ... first of all, we send each other a lot of links and do ents on IM. Secondly, I write for about 12-14 hours a day and oftentimes we are listening to music, podcasts, or whatever at the same time. So it's just easier to correspond via IM when whatever we are saying isn't urgent. It's not like we don't talk out loud as well.
I don't care much about viewing space. I just care that they aren't condensed so much that it's hard to find them. Whatever works for me, it's necessarily what works for everyone else though

The other day I was reading a post you had about forum ideas and Timvp made the comment how he wasn't for the Political forum at first but it was more popular than he thought it would be. I thought maybe that you guys were a two different locations or something like that. But question, can TimVp ever get banned??

I'd imagine anything is possible. I rarely get pissed off, so it's really hard for most people to get banned.

Many people have asked for a separate Music and/or Movie forum. I thought about just making a catch all "Entertainment" forum but it seems most people just want that stuff in the Club. We'll see. I haven't decided anything.
