Shoog did you have some candy corn today? Cause those jokes are reminiscint of cornyness.

Yea... I had to scale it down or else my "stencil" would have taken two pumpkins which I didn't want to buy another. I had to decrease mine by half, unfortunately.
Great idea for a thread Silver21_Black20!
We love Halloween around our house. I especially love pumpkins.
We usually go through several a season but this is our first this year.
It looks great, the cell phone pic doesn't do it justice.

Thanks!

I thought about the Dremel, but the oone I have runs on mains power, and I'm not sure it's safe to use it on a pumpkin.
We don't celebrate Halloween over here (although quite a few shops are trying to get us into it, but my daughter had a scholl project that required carving a pumpkin, and I made a mess of it - so I was curious how you guys do it.
I bought the kit at a store, It had me tape the image I wanted to the pumpkin and then it came with a poker tool and I poke holes all along the lines. The closer you do the holes the more easy it is when you have to cut.
After that I take off the stencil and basically connect the dots, but instead of a pencil it's a knife connecting them.
These were our pumpkins last year. I decided to draw them because it was so muggy I didn't want them to rot in 2 days. I haven't done any pumpkins yet this year. I guess I'd better get on it!
Ah, beginner's tips...You have to cut off the top first so you can scoop all the seeds out. Stab the knife in and saw it around the stem in a way that will allow you to put the top part back on like a lid. If you plan to put a lit candle in the pumpkin, you need to cut a little vent hole in the lid to avoid the inside of the pumpkin getting burned and sooty. Then just carve your face or picture out.
I sprinkle cinnamon on the inside of the top so that when the candle burns, it smells like pumpkin pie.
I still have one pumpkin left to carve (a green one) and wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. I don't normally use the stencils when carving, but when I went to the art supply store today I found a stencil of a Lucha Libre mask.
It shall be awesome.
The best way to carve them is to use a linoleum cutting/carving tool that you can find at any craft store. They come with an assortment of different size tips for less than $10. Also if you just go shallow when carving and don't go all the way through the pumpkin then the pumpkin will look cool when you light it.
Here is picture of what the cutting tools look like.

Unfortunately I didn't get to carve any this year. I was doing good to get all the decorations out. My yard and porch do look kind of cool though.

The mutants have arrived and were a pain in the ass to carve. My husband was like a mad scientist with the growth.

very nice! best one so far.
Very nice!!!
User's is bad ass I must say...
I read that the best tool to use is a variable speed jigsaw at it's lowest speed. a dremel will burn the pumpkin and grab all the fibers inside and just get all tangled and jacked up. routers work well also. i think i'll give the jigsaw a try this year. does anyone know where i can still get a good pumpkin?
My husband was using the Dreml on the growth one. It smelled so bad as he was grinding away. I'm sure I'll find pumpkin pieces everywhere.
I like the Transformers one.
Check out these pumpkin stencils...
