Hardly. The transaction helped out both teams. The Spurs, up against the luxury-tax threshold, were faced with a doubling of Udrih's cost to them ($1.7 million in salary, $1.7 million in tax). So they sent Udrih to Minnesota, which had room under the tax threshold, along with the money to pay the disappointing point guard's salary and an extra $500,000 for the Wolves' trouble.

Because cash is king in Minnesota these days, the Wolves grabbed it. Especially because the pick they promised only goes if the Wolves finish with one of the top four records in the league (right!). Otherwise, the pick gets "conveyed'' into the future and eventually forgotten.
