Usually because they are old and already have many millions in their portfolio. The vast majority simply get as much money as possible wherever they can get it.
Malik already has rings, and he already had a chance to give up money to go somewhere else. He stayed a Knick for $15 million. Not really that difficult a decision, apparently.
