He has been sucking the past few games. We don't get a lot of points from the center position even with Diop and Damp are out there and 100%, but he's been a nonen y on offense. He's also foul-prone sometimes and doesn't play more than about 25-30 minutes a night. So if Dampier isn't playing, that means Dirk at the five for about 18 minutes a night. That = layup line.
Diop has tried to add some offense to his game, but maybe it's affected his concentration on defense. Bass has helped to keep that weakness from being as glaring as it is. AJ's going to have to start cracking down on them to play D again; frankly I'm surprised he ever let up. The Mavs spend way too much time looking like the old run and gun no defense team.
I think it's a little more simple than you guys make it out to seem.
The Mavericks simply cannot compete with Eastern Conference powerhouses like Atlanta, Milwaukee, and Indiana. Nuff said.

After watching the pacers game on friday, the glaring problem is obvious with the mavs end of game scoring options. Dirk should be #1, sadly he isnt

Mavs are far from run and gun...there are way too many possessions were the mavs let the shot clock run down to 5 secs them try and make a play. Watching the mavs on offense at times can be very hard on the eyes

More often than any time in the past couple of years, they've been content to exchange baskets with teams, which envolves taking early shots and fast breaks at the wrong times. It goes hand-in-hand with not playing defense. When they are playing well, the Mavs fast break only after getting turnovers. See when they whipped the Spurs in the first half of that game.

remember the "expected wins" stat? Last year the Mavs won way more games than they should have according to this calculation - the breaks went their way at the ends of games and they won lots of close ones. So far this year the opposite is true and the Mavs are losing the close games. Last year's Mavs team wasn't as good as its record, this year's is probably a little better (though there's nothing wrong with 9-4).
Mavs have the same record they did this time last year.. Dirk is still out of sync from wrestling koala bears in Australia. Give them time, it's still just November.
