Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger, 28, has died of a drug overdose in New York, police have confirmed.
He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3.35pm local time, TMZ said.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ they believe it was not a crime.
Ledger was born in Perth, Western Australia.
He was the son of Sally Ledger Bell, a French teacher, and Kim Ledger, a race car driver and mining engineer.

NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.
According to WNBC, Ledger was found with pills strewn all around him.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m. ET.
The Australian-born actor has a two-year-old daughter with former fiancee Mic e Williams. Ledger was set to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film "The Dark Knight." He received an Academy Award nomination for his work in "Brokeback Mountain."

Usually artist that OD have a history with drugs. Was i the only one who didnt know he had a drug problem?
I didn't know he had a drug problem either. This is a real shock.
I'm sure it was more of a suicide than an accidental OD
if they're in Hollywood i just assume they have a drug problem.

Suicide sounds more like what it may be. This is still really sad. I think I'm gonna go watch Lords of Dogtown because of this.
