Isn't Damon Stoudamire the one who famously said that no team with Avery Johnson as the point guard would ever win a le?
The NBA is a business. Anything short of a felony gets overlooked when a team is in need.
Isn't Damon Stoudamire the one who famously said that no team with Avery Johnson as the point guard would ever win a le?
aj is a piece of so who cares
Just as long as he doesn't say 'any team with Avery Johnson as coach'...
yup, but AJ isn't here anymore![]()
what?
Even I don't care for AJ anymore, but back then you have to give AJ props for doing his part and contributing to the 99 team as well as making Damon eat his words with a game winning shot in the Finals.
I'm not in the AJ camp so I could give a about what he said about him. Horry was punched Drob in the balls and we all know he has made great contributions to the spurs. If this guy can be an adequate backup for Tony I could careless of his past.
At this point ANYTHING helps. He's a veteran now so he wants a ring and is hungry...and we all know for damn sure he can score better than vaughn. I cringed so many times last night seeing vaughn shoot up brick after brick after brick.
who gives a ?
good...I am glad. Was Vaugh supposed to play all 48 minutes because he is pretty much the only true pg this team has right now.
I would have liked Cassell or even Boykins more but I'll take Stoudamire. The alternative would be Pop flying to Cancun and begging Nick Van Exel to come out of retirement.
wow how embarrassing is that? the Spurs FO forgot to have a backup PG in case of injuries Doh!!!
With #6 hanging from the rafters now, anyone think there's a chance he could hear some boos?
This is going to happen.
Stoudamire is the only option for the Spurs. Vaughn playing 35 mpg is not going to work, and Barry is out for possibly a long time. Even if Barry was healthy I don't think the Spurs would give him a lot of minutes at Pg because of his defense.
Right now I think the Spurs are looking at: winning enough games to stay in the playoffs, while resting key players and hope they get healthy. Playing Duncan and Ginobili 40 mpg like in Seattle game is not a good idea.
IMO the Spurs need scoring. They have not been scoring enough points to win games. Having Vaughn play a lot of minutes is not going to get it done. That gives you Bowen, Oberto, Vaughn, Elson all playing extended minutes, and none of them can score.
Stoudamire, at the very least, is a guy who can put some points on the board.
Yeah, I figured it was a done deal yesterday when Mike Monroe had that blog post saying it was. It must have been 100% at that point or else the Spurs wouldn't have let the info get out.
I don't understand what the big idea with Ginobili playing 40mpg? The guy is 29. Wade, Baron Davis, Iverson...those guys all play extended minutes when necessary. Over the course of 82 games? Your right, not a good idea, but if there are stretches like now, when people are hurt or out...stop babying him. Play him 40 minutes if thats what it takes to win some game. He's no more fragile or important to his team as are the 3 all stars mentioned.
Did you see Ginobili down the stretch? He was playing like he had cement boots on.
To his credit he played well but he couldn't move at all and had no explosion.
I'm not saying its ideal...but you gotta do what you gotta do. I highly doubt Baron and Iverson have explosion night in and night out with all the minutes they are playing. But at certain points of the season you have to go with it. Manu or Jeremy Richardson? et al.
Stoudamire will help but the real question is: will anyone else besides Timmy and Manu?
Stoudamire should help to replace some of TP's scoring and ballhandling while TP is out. The key right now is for the Spurs to win the games they should no matter what (ie last night) and win most of their home games.
Right? That's going to be humorous. I even think JET vs Damon will be humorous.
Good luck Spurs fans.
um...thank you...![]()
Right, thanks mavfan. All we need to do is get Parker healhty. If it means giving your team another regular season championship, that's fine.
