That's too bad.. I was really hoping for the annual gay bashing legislation.... Sorry, I mean the pro-family legislation that rises only during Presidential campaigns...
You're going to get upset when socially conservtive economic populism starts creeping back into the Democratic Party. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The GOP has capitulated to social conservatives to the point that a GOP president and congress expanded a major en lement program, lest mere $ get in the way of King George II and his second term.

That seems to be the natural progression. The less well off can afford to vote to keep the gays and lesbians and the rest of those heathens in their place when times are good. When they're not, it's time to return home.

I really can not fathom that the religious right would be all so gung ho over voting for Romney either. Many Evangelicals I know blast the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I can't see them rallying their troops for him.
    Amen.

Hating Hillary is more important than eternal damnation for those people.

UOTE=Extra Stout]Embryonic stem cell research is almost a moot point now with recent advances.

It seems you and I usually disagree, but I'm glad to see you are aware of that.

As for Roe vs. Wade, any President who promises to "repeal" Roe vs. Wade is counting upon the stupidity of the audience. A candidate either can promote a cons utional amendment which has zero chance of passing, or he can nominate Supreme Court justices who take a disdainful view of post-1960 activist jurisprudence.
    I agree here too.

So the relevant question is, what kind of justices would McCain nominate? The Alice Batchelder type or the Consuelo Callahan type?
I doubt he will elect the ones we really need. McCain works so well with the democrats, I don't care what his empty promises are... The judges will be like O'Conner, or worse.

I've thougth McCain was the logical nominee for the Republican party for a couple of months now; it appears I am not alone.
I personally think McCain has the best chance of winning against the democrat nominee because he will take the middle over a liberal, and the right will not vote left.

Still. I want a conservative. Not another neocon. Romney has the right suff to win too. Just not as easily.

    Want another Bush?

    I don't!

It's just interesting to me that right-wing radio is so violently lashing out at those who have voted republican in the primaries and caucuses to date. The conservatives are begging for Romney, but the republicans are voting for McCain.
And you get that from the elections of one state?

Get real. Florida was the first state not to have an open primary, and the republican hispanic vote gave McCain the lead.

Can we say 'easy immigration' anyone?

It's not going to be that easy in other republican voting states for McCain.

I would absolutely LOVE for the religious right to get their own damn party. Their interference is one of the main reasons why I started voting democrat.
I would love to see the libertarians and cons utionalists become more viable, but before any third part becomes viable, all states need to have runoff elections, so the third party is never seen as a spoiler.

McCain/Guiliani will probably be the ticket for Nov.

Yes, even among people who claim to be good... There is bigotry.

I was really fearful that Romney didn't have a chance for that reason. I was later ecstatic to see him do as well as he has and still believe he will be are next president.

I have always claimed the republican part was less prejudiced than democrats, but the religious issue had me concerned too. With as well as Romney has done to date with the republican delegates, I have revised that thinking to see less religious bigotry than I thought!

    God, I hope not.

It would be a sure republican win, but I want a conservative in the White House again.

We haven't had one since Reagan.

My guess is that McCain would pick a governor like Sanford of South Carolina or Pawlenty of Minnesota. One would think that he'd go with a Southern governor instead of a Midwestern one, but it's McCain.
