Kansas State athletic director Tim Weiser is leaving the university to take a position at the Big 12 Conference, a source close to the situation confirmed Thursday.
Weiser, 49, came to K-State in July 2001. He previously had been at Colorado State. On Weiser’s watch, K-State saw its athletic budget grow from $27 million to $38 million in 2007-08.
His biggest hires in coaching were replacing football legend Bill Snyder with Ron Prince in 2005 and men’s basketball coach Jim Wooldridge with Bob Huggins in 2006 and more recently Frank Martin, who was promoted when Huggins left for West Virginia in April.
