Nick Van Exel part 2:
Damon Stoudamire.
Tony needs to be shut down until he is 100% healthy again.
If Damon can come in an give close to his career averages, it should improve the Spurs chances to stay afloat. And there would be no need to rush Tony back.
Come playoff time, we need Tony healthy. Just go look at the differece in the Offense when he was, versus the Offense now. Tony not healthy = everyone taking a huge dip in their offensive game.
I say sit him as long as it takes to heal the heel.
Nick Van Exel part 2:
Damon Stoudamire.
I don't think Stoudamire will be another Van Exel signing.
I ripped on Avery Johnson, too. So what?
Come to think of it... the Spurs have a habit of winning les with players that would never start on other teams.
Stoudamire trashing AJ is called "gamesmanship." I don't mind that.
And about the weed? Who doesn't enjoy a nice blunt of 'dro every now and then?
Welcome aboard, Damon.
You'll be starting as early as next week.
Watch.
Before he had heard the news that Tony Parker's injury would keep the Spurs' two-time All-Star point guard out of action for the next three weeks,
Excactly and Avery proved him wrong anyways. Lets see what he can bring, like it or not he is a Spur.
Never liked Mighty Mouse, too much of a no-defense chucker, but since the deal is already made, no point whining.
Hope MM can help.
The defense is my main concern, but obviously Pop said that the spurs have no trouble keeping teams under their season scoring average. His concern is scoring and we all know Mighty Mouse can score.
But what tells us this is not NVE part deux?
They both wanted to play with spurs, they were both old, they could all score with the best of them but couldn't guard our grand mothers.
And don't forget what the Pop system does to shooters in their first year, TROUBLE.
I, for one, am expecting Damon to do well. He knows he has a shot with this team and will conform to our ways. He's no longer the scoring option that his salary expected him to be with the other teams, so he no longer has the weight of the team on his shoulder to worry about. Here's an opportunity for him to have fun and win a championship ring. His experience will not allow him to take this for granted.
One bright spot: Finally, once and for all I will now have it ingrained who is Stoudamire and who is Stoudemire.
i think everyone did their due diligence here, both Damon and the Spurs. personally, i think this guy is going to fit in well. he might not be the best defensive player but playing with the second team, his purpose is to sustain any lead the spurs has and he can score the ball. before memphis went into their youth movement, he was putting up decent numbers and assists early in the season.
i welcome the guy...he gives us more offensive punch with the second unit now. manu, idoka and damon on the court at the same time sounds pretty sweet to me.
the question is, at this age, is he better than beno though?
he better show that fire he wants to win a ring, like how it took finley 2 seasons
I wanna know how mouse feels about having another mouse in the house.
Still have to differentiate between the two StoudAmires...
I am happy with the signing. Every championship year there is a veteran that has never won before and is trying to win one for the first time. Damon, this one is for you...
Stoudamire hasn't been very good lately with Memphis. We will soon know if it was only because of his age or if he also lacked of some motivation.
I expect Pop to put players back in their role that is to say starting Finley/Stoudamire with Vaughn and Ginobili coming from the bench.
Hard for me to believe that a midget with all the miles of 13 so-so years on him is the best available guard FA out there.
But ya gotta trust in the FO and Pop...and praying a little helps.
I hope Stoudamire can help
So when the is he officially signed anyway?
this signing alone forced the lakers trade for gasol correct?
May be hard for you, but look at the list of current PGs available......Hard for me to believe that a midget with all the miles of 13 so-so years on him is the best available guard FA out there.
His overall FG Pct. sucks but he's 36 of 94 on threes this season which is a .383 3pt pct. He will get wide open looks beyond the arc. This will be interesting.
Yeah I wish hed play every game like he did that second game of the year....
The only thing that could convince me this is a good idea is Jacque Vaughn putting up 15 shots.
That being said, welcome aboard Mighty Mouse. Make somethin' happen.
Damon won't want to rock the boat and try to do to much. This situation he's coming into, is different to the others he's been in. He knows the opportunities will be there to prove his worth and the Spurs do need a guy who can up the tempo on offense like Tony can. The best part, im gonna feel a lot more at ease seeing him shoot wide open shots instead of Vaughn.
Good signing by the Spurs .
