Kurt Thomas isn't that good. His defense is overrated.
nothing to be excited about here.
i'd rather keep Barry
Well almost everyone around here rallied to get Darius Washington on the team. Why can't we do the same to get Kurt Thomas?

good point, Barry would do wonders against Shaq and Gasol
Says the man with Brent Barry in his avatar.
Question - IF Pop did want to make a trade do you think he'd prefer a scorer/shooter like Mike Miller or do you think he'd rather a big like KT, Wilcox, Haslem?
Omg Kurt Thomas Mah Fav Playerrrrr
No problem. Presti waives Barry and Spurs resign him at vet minimum.
Is that allowed? I thought they couldn't resign with their original team? Or is there a waiting period before it can happen?
Does Kurt Thomas have an expiring contract or does he have 1 more year left on it as a player option?
if we trade with seattle presti is gonna want Ian.
Kurt is in his final season of his contract.
He'd be great for the Spurs. He fouls Amare a lot, but he frustrates him as well. With Duncan behind he can focus more on positioning.
i think this post makes sense... after all Thomas has shown to be a great Duncan defender but i dunno about Gasol or Amare though![]()
He doesn't have a player or team option?
If that is the case then there really is no reason for Presti to make that trade unless he wants to hear the word "COLLUSION" for the rest of the season. Spurs would have to include someone like Ian possibly so the trade does not look so one sided.
People keep posting (and websites keep printing) that he's in the last year of his contract. But according to the time that he signed his extension - he's not. However, maybe next year was an option year that he declined or something.
It is not allowed by rules..
I have no idea, but I get mine from websites. Pretty reliable ones.
I know. I have seen it on ESPN.com, etc too. But here's the note from the NBA when he signed his extension:
"The Knicks signed Kurt Thomas to a 4 year, $30.9 million contract extension. He is now signed through the 2008-09 season."![]()
... but then here's the note from the league last summer:
"Kurt Thomas of the Phoenix Suns picked up the 2007-2008 player option on his contract."![]()
true. I do likes me some Barry!
Let me put it this way. I understand the need to get bigger and I wouldn't mind an upgrade to Elson. I'm just not convinced Kurt Thomas is the answer. Seems a bit expensive, for someone I've always seen as overrated. What is the answer? I don't really know. I'd prefer we stick to our guns, keep our roster fairly intact, and rely on our chemistry and vet savvy. If we go into the playoffs with a healthy roster I believe we are better off than having an extra big dude who doesn't really know the system. Barry can absolutely light it up at times, and I fear that would be sorely missed. The only problem is that we may not have a healthy roster. Barry may not recover in time to be effective. If we do trade Barry and others, I'm ok with it, but I'd rather not do it for Kurt Thomas. I'd prefer someone like Haslem, or Tyrus Thomas, or even Wilcox but they are definitely a long shot.
If Pop does make a trade, I'm not sure what type of player he would prefer. I imagine he'd probably prefer Miller with Haslem as a close second. But I think Haslem should be the first priority... He is a bit undersized, but he's been playing with Shaq the past few years and I'm sure he has had quite a bit of practice and insider info at guarding the big boy. Not to mention he could match up well with Dirk or Amare.
Now that would be a pretty slick move. And I would approve of KT under those cir stances. No problem. Presti waives Barry and Spurs resign him at vet minimum.
When boston traded payton to the hawks for walker, atlanta waived payton and he went back to Boston...
A great Duncan defender? Duncan ate him alive in the PO's last year.
I believe after that, they made a rule to close that loophole. So now there's a waiting period. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I remember reading it.
yeah i remember, seemed a pretty shady deal
I wonder how long the waiting period is? Maybe we could still resign him in time to be on the Playoff roster.
He could have two player options. When Tim signed his contract in 2003, he had it set up with a player option two years before it expired AND the year before.
I wondered about this, too. I have read on several sights people clamoring for Thomas and saying their team should trade for him and his expiring deal, but I thought he had another year, too.
I am thinking 90 days but I am not sure why.
So is this bs or what?
I just heard on the radio that yes, it is in fact BS
