13-0....all the way!
Why not?...
"Dallas is right on SA's ass"
Hardly, DAL are 4.5 GB, and I doubt they will get very close, or even closer, by 20 April. fwiw, Spurs have the SW divsion wrapped up. Now we're playing for HCA (fwiw).
A curiousity of the new divisions in the WC is the huge numerical gap between each divsion leader and the division's 2nd place team. no ties, no neck-and-neck races, and probably there won't be any (PHX, SA, SEA aren't going to collapse). PHX, SA, SEA are way out front (but SA is less out front than the other two division leaders).
The Spurs have to beat <everybody> not because of what's going on behind the Spurs, but what's up front: Spurs are on PHX's ass for first place in the NBA. The Spurs 4 or 5 giveaway losses (vs PHX's no giveaway losses) need to be made up this month.
DEEEEE FENSE!! (which is really why any serious commentator calls SA the NBA's best team, so now we need the best record)
Dallas is only 3 games back in loss column, and you say the race is over with over 40 games left to play???
Double![]()
Do you really think SA will lose more games than DAL before the end of the season?
I prefer to think that the past and current stability of the WC division standings will be maintained (ie, WC divisions are GAMEOVER), with the only horse race being for the conference leadership being disputed only by SA, SEA, PHX.
12 - 1
The one we drop will be to either Sacramento or Phoenix, making for some good rivalry fodder for the playoffs.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think 12-1 will be the record.
It's either going to be @Phoenix or @Seattle. I don't think Pop lets the Spurs get lax in games like tonight's or against a team like Portland (where the Spurs can sometimes falter).
"I don't think Pop lets the Spurs get lax"
Spurs laxity ain't up to Pop, so very obviously. When the Spurs don't want to play their best or near best, Pop's ass kicking hasn't been effective (5 giveaway losses and some pretty ty wins). That's why I think there needs to be team member as leader and ass-kicker, who leads with his play and his mouth.
Yeah, but you know he will switch rotations and rip time if somebody doesn't bring it tonight.
You think he let them celebrate Denver as a win?
SA was 9 back of Dallas 2 years ago and ended up tied with them(60-22) because of a late surge. Dallas can get hot and win 10-12 straight and catch SA. They have been playing really well the last 2 weeks and will not be losiing all those home games like they were losing at the start of the year( they actually have a better road record than SA).
Remember, Dallas has a lot of new players this year, just like SA had the last few years, so once they get to know each other, they can improve dramatically.
You are being naive if you think a 3 game lead is insurmountable with 45 -47 games to play.
"SA was 9 back of Dallas 2 years ago"
because DAL had a once-in-a-franchise start of 15 or 20 - 0, while Spurs were, in Pop's words, in re-building mode and struggling until the rodeo road trip. That was a very different season from this one.
DAL had a very bad start. SA would have to have an equally bad finish to drop down where DAL is. SA will play well, DAL will play well, and the SA lead over DAL will be maintained.
That's why I hate it when Spurs fans say "it's only one game" when the Spurs give a game away. At the end of the season in WC, one game can keep you from winning your division, HCA, up or down a place in the seedings, etc. All 82 games are important. Giving away games to lesser teams always costs something when a team PHX just hasn't done it. It's hard enough to beat the top teams, no need to give away games to lesser teams.
Well, you are taking it for granted that SA will cruise to the division le...I am not. As you say every loss adds up. If we had not gotten swept by Philly last year, we would have won the Midwest division, avoided LA in rd two and more than likely won the championship.
Dallas will not go away.
apropos DAL:
Mavs Schedule About To Get Tougher
In the STAR TELEGRAM, Art Garcia writes that "if it seems as if the Mavericks have been at home forever, perhaps it's because they just about have." Since defeating the Nuggets the day after Christmas, "the Mavs have played only four games -- all at American Airlines Center. By the time the homestand ends Wednesday against Houston, the Mavs will have knocked only five games off their schedule over a span of 16 days." But the coming weeks will prove different as the Mavs "will embark on a more arduous part of their schedule. Starting Friday in San Antonio, the Mavs play 18 games in 35 days," including 11 of those 18 games on the road."
===========================
Spurs should start the Mavs arduous segment with a blowout victory @SBC, rattling the sabers in the direction of PHX the following Friday.
weird, the Mavs are on the road in Feb just about as much as the Spurs, including this little joy ride:
Fri 11 @ Sacramento
Sun 13 @ Seattle

I hate being right all the time.![]()
Well, the Spurs need to start playing better fast or they will lost to Washington too.
I wish you would have been wrong tonight.![]()
I wouldn't say the you are right all the time because you were wrong about UTAH. Also I said 12-1 so already I'm out of contention.![]()
Since Tim doesnt want this job does anyone else think that Tim should give his endorsement for Tony Parker as Spurs official ass-kicker?
Tony has been playing on this team for 3+ years now. He seems like he wouldn't mind being that type of leader. So how about starting a Tony needs to be the ass-kicker on this team campaign?
Anyone else have a better candidate? Manu? Bowen?
Bump
wrong about Phoenix Nostradamus.
what wrong?
This is HOW many games will they win...right???
I said 10, am I still in it???
What about the people that said 13-0 and 12-1?

Team is 7 and 2, I had predicted 11 and 2, Spurs are strong right now but still have some tough games coming up.
Hope the prediction holds - should beat Portland even though on road, and Kings at home, NO should be a piece of cake, tough one will be Seattle on road but Spurs should really want that one.
Still confident on 11 and 2. It is important to beat Kings to lock season series and to beat Sonics to get back to 1-2 vs. them and put another loss on their record.
MadDoc
Spurs need to win out for me to be right with the 10-3 prediction.
