Yeah! I own 40 criterion films on dvd and down by law is also one of them.
I think black and white is the only way to film anything. The technology for color stock constantly changes, while black and white film stick generally stays the same.
I should add, why it didn't win oscar for best picture back when it was nominated.
I apologize.

My top 5 or at least top 10 movie as well.
Robin Williams in that role was priceless.

CF, we have some similar taste in movies methinks. I also love My Own Private Idaho and Jarmusch, especially Ghost Dog and Dead Man. I think PT Anderson might be my favourite writer-director though (for everything he's done!), along with Ridley Scott for Blade Runner and Thelma and Louise, and of course anything by the Cohens. Do you enjoy Wim Wenders' flights of fancy?
T Park, GWH is in my top 10 too, and Robin William's best performance.

Yeah, Good Will Hunting should have sunk anic in 1997, but the Academy failed at an epic level. Just like when they robbed Mystic River in 2003 because they wanted to give out a record-tying number of Oscars to that piece of crap Return of the King. . . which only swept all of its nominations to make up for the first two getting snubbed in most of their nominations.
It is a very good movie, and one of my favorites too. Damn T Park, what took you so long?
You really think Mystic River deserved it in 2003? I really thought Lost In Translation deserved it.
The academy also goofed up this year with NCFOM over TWBB
Yeah, I do think Mystic River was a better film than Lost in Translation. Nothing against the latter, it's certainly a good film too. But in my opinion it was too close to decide between those two so they just went with the copout and gave it to Lord of the Rings.
Agreed.
One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.![]()
TWBB is overrated. DDL did a good job and was deserving in his role, but TWBB is really really really overrated. Really.
Sad that it took you so long to see it, TPark . It is my favorite movie! I am glad you liked it.
This is my favorite Gus Van Sant movie and one of my all time favorite movies.
Robin Williams did his best work, by far, in this movie.
Having said that, I'd like to see "Good Will Hunting 2: Open Season".
It looks promising.
Wim Wenders... did Buena Vista Social Club, right? I thought that was a really good film, but admit to not being immediately familiar with the rest of his stuff.
Agree with both, but I'm not losing too much sleep over No Country's win. Nor would I have been terribly upset if Michael Clayton had snuck in and won. 2007 was a pretty damn good year for movies, actually.
And, for the record, I thought that Mystic River was a contrived, ham handed, overwrought, and overrated piece of . But... I realize I'm in the minority with that opinion.
A great movie indeed.![]()
I don't get out to the movies as often as I'd like, and I get way behind on seeing movies. When all of these movies come out, is pretty much the summer, I'm at my busiest and don't have hardly any nights to go out and see any.Damn T Park, what took you so long?
Good Will Hunting is great, but in 1997 it shouldn't have won. anic shouldn't have won. Everyone seems to have forgotten about LA Confidential.
And in 97, the best movie didn't even get nominated - Boogie Nights.
dead poets society.
"Applesauce, "
You guys have some weak Top 5 lists.
This movies sucks, how do you like them apples tpark!!!
For once Manny, you and I agree..
Doesn't bother me. Its easily one of the most well written movies and one of the better story lines i've ever seen.
Thats just my opinion though.
His GWH role was superior to his DPS role.
But, you'd also have to throw in Awakenings in the mix.
He had a great performance there.
I agree, Mork has evolved into a great actor.
