I was amazed at how good JR Smith looked. That's the best I've seen of him.

It was clear that J.R. Smith had no respect for Tim's ability to defense him. He went right at him or around him time after time when TD was on him.

I've gained respect for Bonner's character and at ude. Everyone knows how players fight to get tickets for their friends and relatives when they play in their home area. Pop didn't even give Bonner a minute of court time (how could it have hurt).

Further, Pop has had Bonner "in irons" for a while, but Bonner hasn't sulled up like lots of players who don't respond well after they've been put in the doghouse. He's a Good team mate.

-Michael Finley didn’t get into the game until a couple minutes into the second quarter. He has struggled violently with his shot as of late but tonight he actually shot the ball well. He hit half of his six attempts to total eight points in 19 minutes. This was hopefully a step in the right direction offensively for Finley. Although defensively, I’m seeing some distressing signs. Finley, who was matched up primarily with JR Smith, let Smith drive around him with ease almost every time Smith touched the ball. Finley’s lateral quickness has been horrible in the last couple of weeks. I don’t know if he’s battling an injury or if age has caught up to him. Whatever the reason, Finley is a huge defensively liability right now.
Finley doesn't look injured so I'm assuming it's a combination of age and the shuffling around in the rotation that's the cause of his struggles. His at ude and body language look good so maybe a little lack of focus? He was so used to playing with certain guys, knew someone would cover his man if he left to help on someone else, or knew Duncan was behind him if someone drove by him. Fin was actually playing decent defense before all this but he's certainly a liablity right now. If Udoka could score consistently he'd be ahead of Finley right now for sure. Makes me wonder where Barry will fit in? He's not known for his defense either but if he's able to knock down those 3's like he was before and Fin's struggling offensively he'd be ahead of Finley even.

He's had several games like that this year, the Spurs should seriously took a look at him or someone like him in the off season...

I seriously think TIMVP could have a career in either coaching or sportwriting. An excellent summation, as usual.

I had to catch much of the second half on radio and it went something like this:

Michael Finely checks in at the scorer's table.

JR Smith drives into the lane and [lays it in, dishes it out, etc].

About as effective as a traffic cone. Yes, JR is athletic but there is athleticism all over the NBA and Finley is going to have to check some of those people on occasion. I'm thinking it has to be an injury because he is historically a hard worker and this would also explain his shooting woes.

I don't necessarily think that Pop is waiting to settle the rotation down. I already think he knows who he wants. But I also think that 4 games in 5 nights means he's been managing minutes more closely than usual as of late. Bonner's been playing because he's the only guy not dead-tired, and it's showing.

If we had a more steady schedule, I would expect our rotations to be a bit more stable as well.

-Damon Stoudamire and Jacque Vaughn split the backup minutes at point guard. Neither one of them played too well. Stoudamire had two points and two assists in five minutes, while Vaughn had one rebound in three minutes. At some point, Pop will either need to stick with Stoudamire or give the backup job back to Vaughn.
I hope Pop decides who will be the backup soon

Those guys are giving us nothing since TP came back.

When they know who will play I think the can improve and do better

I would think that Stoudamire has the burden of outplaying Vaughn. Last year Vaughn was the backup for the playoff run, and he played well enough to not lose it for the Spurs. Why change unless Stoudamire can show that he is both a better player, and steady under pressure?

When given the task of being distributor first and shooter second hes fantastic.

Your not gonna find any backups better than him now or probobly next year.

This is actually pretty funny cause I thought the same thing. The funny part is that's not really Damon's game being a distributer first, but for the Spurs he was doing very well playing that type game. When he actually plays his regular game he's been awful.

Very true. he was great for the first three games - in fact, the way he fitted into the system at once was incredible - but since then he's been pretty bad.

Tell him to pass first, Pop! Bowen rules! Open 3s and easy 2s only!

As a Suns fan I was actually pulling for the Spurs to win this, so that we wouldn't need to sweat too much for a playoff seat. However, I must say the refs gave the game to Spurs with incredibly many questionable calls against Nugs in the 3rd, which frustrated them and got Melo the technical among others.

But all in all a very intense game. Hope we will meet in the playoffs again!

Sorry about the belated comments but i only just managed to see the game .

My 2 observations . I think Finley is taking too much heat for JR Smith's dominence . Udoka got abused by Smith. He's semed like a good match-up, just did not pan out that way . Also I liked the shots he took considering the Nuggs left him open a lot. The problem was he couldn't hit'em which makes him liability on offense.

With Stoudamire, I dont like the way Pop is handling him since asking him to be more aggressive . From the games i've seen .. He goes with him the first half and then goes with Vaughn the second. I'ts not like Sotudamire did much wrong to warrent Pop going with Vaughn. Not the best way to boost that confidence.
