If you ask rockets fans at that time almost everyone would've said that the reason they started clicking was because McGrady wasn't there to be a ballhog.
That's just sour grapes because they got off to a slow start and he's never gotten out of the first round.

He's gone 10/30 from the field a lot of times this season.
So has Kobe. It happens. And Kobe has finally "gotten it," he doesn't try to do everything himself anymore. He gets his teammates involved early and looks for his shot in crunchtime.

I thought that Houston best player was Yao
He has stamina and conditioning issues. When TMac is healthy, he's a notch below Kobe and LeBron.

Historically, the Rockets have done better when TMac plays and Yao is out than vice versa. TMac is not a selfish player.
But you HAVE to agree with the lack of BBIQ point though. Anyone who takes as many pullup 20-24 foot jumpshots with 21 seconds left on the shot clock as T-Mac does can NOT have it. He's a good passer and DOES have the ability to find an open teammate (if indeed he has no opportunity to score most of the time).

The only person who takes more pull-up 3's in transition is Stephen Jackson, but because that IS in part the GS offense, he has the green light, and oh yeah...he MAKES THEM.

I'm just not a T-Mac fan. I've never seen someone who has such a general disregard for an offensive set in my life that gets so much run. I know there are the Steve Francis/Ricky Davis/Ben Gordon/(young) A.I.'s of the world, but even they never seemed to get as much praise ast McGrady.

Seriously, TMac would sacrifice his first-born son and take only 5 shots a game if it got him out of the first round. Say what you will about him, but he absolutely does not care about his numbers.

Realistically, I think if Amare took 30 FGA in a game now, he'd rack up 55 or more easily.
Wouldn't Nash's arms get tired from lobbing up 30 alley-oops? You gotta think about the collateral damage from giving Amare 30 FGA.

To a certain degree, yes, that's taking a shot out of the flow of the offense. But the OP is contending that he's a selfish ballhog that only cares about his #s and that's just not true.

I think he's better than all those guys you listed. He's not a clubhouse lawyer like some of those guys, he's not a stats guy like some of them. And I'm glad you added the *young* caveat to AI. Dude is a warrior. I think the problem with Iverson is that he needs to have the ball to be effective. He reminds me of Maravich in that way.

I guess McGrady's series against Dallas just left a real mark on me. The Rockets had no business taking us to seven games. Not only did he dominate us on offense, but he guarded Dirk one on one for most of it and bottled him up. I have a lot of respect for him bc of that. And that footage of him crying after choking against Utah just gets to me. Dude just wants it so bad. His priorities are where they should be, he just doesn't always have the right compass, IMO.

Maybe in Game 1. But TMac guarded him for the bulk of the series IIRC.

Findog i'll give you that if somebody tells McGrady that if he takes 5 shots per game his team'll pass the first round he would do that but that adds to the "he's 0 BBIQ" thing.
If he doesn't take 30 shots 'cause he wants to pump up his numbers, is 'cause he thinks he needs to and that's very stupid. No team in the world can win a single thing with guys going 10/30 from the field. You need to play as a team. There's a reason he never made it pass the first round.

I can't speak for every exit, but most of those times, he wasn't on the better team, and there's absolutely no way you can put the loss to Dallas on him. Same thing with Garnett in Minnesota - the Wolves were always the seventh or eighth seed without HCA going against stronger teams, what did people think was going to happen?

Well there's a reason no T-mac team has been the favorite in a playoff series.

Now in all seriousnes i do think that T.Mac is either a little bit dumb or an ego maniac. Look at some of the things he's said during the course of his career.

"if we don't make it pass the first round this year it's on me. This is my team i'm the best player on this team so if we don't win this series it is on me."
(this was prior to the rockets-jazz series last year- First it's very silly to say you are going to beat a team before a series and Second it's even more silly to put all the presure on you saying that you're the team best player specially if you have Yao Ming in your team.)

And when he was in Orlando he said something like "i want to lead a team to a championship i don't want to win a championship beign just a mere role player"

So i think there's something wrong with him.

I remember the first part of this statement but I'd like a link for the last part.

I don't know how to post a link so if you know how, please do the honors. Anyways it isn't a literal quote. it was just to give an idea of what he said.

In the address bar of an internet browser, highlight the url and hold down the control key and C at the same time. Then when you make a post here, hold down the control key and V at the same time.

There's no way he would've said that about himself. As for the rest of the quote, it's called taking responsibility and not ducking from criticism.

Tmac is out tonight against Seattle.

He has a tendency to settle for jumpers too often, but he is a very willing passer and is an unselfish player.

Sometimes our players stand around and watch him too much, which forces him to shoot, I am sure Laker fans understand that as well.

The Rockets are better when Tmac is shooting 18 to 20 shots a game...and NOT 31...

Cortisone shot in his shoulder yesterday left him a bit sore.

He got it bumped a couple of weeks ago....nothing serious, I think if it were not the Sonics he would be playing.
