They have to make up 3 on us in 7 games. It could happen, I wouldn't start printing up playoff tickets yet, but we're in control of our destiny, and they're not.
warriors need to drop out. They put ads on their website a long time ago for playoff tickets....
That in itself should be enough to warrant them missing out![]()

Dirk with bone spurs? That was never reported last yr was it?
It will get dicey, they could win the next two and we could drop the next two, but we should finish around 4-3, which means GS would have to go 7-0.
Magic # is 5. Actually it's 3 since we have two left against Seattle.

Happened one month before the playoffs started. He played because we were toast without him. Seriously, he came back a week and a half after a high ankle sprain too. Nothing pisses me off more than when people call him soft.
And Dampier tore his rotator cuff and only played 17 minutes against GS. You saw last night how valuable he is against smallball.
The Mavs didn't want to make excuses or blame it on injuries. It's one of the things I like about Avery and how he differs from Cuban.
Well yea but I still think they shouldve taken care of the Warriors last yr, no excuses. But I know, happens. lol
A big mitigating factor, all I'm saying.
Yea but you cant play everything on injuries ya'll had Howard, Terry, Harris and all those other guys too, won 67 games in the reg. season, its just the match-ups you get in the Playoffs is what it comes down to in a series.
Only a few stars would have played in the playoffs with that kind of injury, instead he was called soft by the media. everyone, I hope Dirk ing torches your teams and I hope it kills you inside when he is doing it.![]()
Josh Howard was the only guy on our team who had a good series against the Warriors. Across the board everybody sucked ass.
Everybody says we got suckered into going small with the Warriors and playing their game when we should've slowed it down, right? Actually, I'm not going to rewrite this guy's words, but he makes a very compelling case that you should welcome the opportunity to run with Golden State, and it's an approach Avery has made this year. We beat them at their own game by playing up-tempo last night:

Nowitzki is criticized for not posting up the smaller Golden State players who guard him but Nowitzki is not a postup player; he didn't lead the Mavericks to the 2006 Finals by posting people up and he didn't lead the Mavericks to 67 victories in 2007--winning the MVP in the process--by posting people up. Nowitzki is a great faceup shooter who is an above average driver, a very good rebounder and an improving passer. Golden State Coach Don Nelson drafted Nowitzki and coached him for years, so he knows better than anyone what Nowitzki can and cannot do--and, just as importantly, what Nowitzki is comfortable doing. That is why Nelson uses all of these zone defenses against Dallas and why he puts the short but muscular Davis on Nowitzki; Nelson is trying to bait Dallas into posting up Nowitzki, taking him away from his comfort zones. Nowitzki does not have great post moves and any time he puts the ball on the floor in the post area the smaller, quicker Warriors players swarm him, resulting in forced shots or forced passes. Nowitkzi is tall and lanky, with a high center of gravity; he is never going to bull over a fireplug like Davis, nor is he going to overpower Al Harrington, Andris Biedrins or Jackson (who often guarded Nowitzki during last year's playoffs).
What Nowitzki needs to do is catch the ball on the wing, facing the hoop; if his defender crowds him, then he can drive, draw an extra defender and pass to the open man. If his defender backs up, then he can shoot right over him; if the defender is as short as Davis he can shoot right over him whether or not he backs up. This is why Dallas should be pushing the ball and running as little halfcourt offense as possible, even if this goes against what Coach Avery Johnson ideally would prefer to do. When the Mavericks push the ball Nowitzki can get a lot of open jumpers without having to worry about being double-teamed; even if you try to play a slowdown game against Golden State as soon as the Warriors get the ball they are off and running; what ends up happening is you fight in the halfcourt against their zones and traps for 24 seconds without getting a good look, then they get the ball--make or miss--and run it down your throat. That is how Dallas lost to Golden State in last year's playoffs. Dallas and Utah have better individual players than Golden State and they have better teams, so neither squad should be afraid to get into a running game with the Warriors.
If we had just pushed the ball vs the warriors and limited the warriors fastbreak points on defense we probably would have won the series pretty easily imo. Its a shame none of the coaching staff could have thought of that, that upset was highly unnecessary.
The other thing to do is chase them off the 3-point line and let them drive to the basket. Biedrins is the only guy that they have who can post up. What killed us were 3-pointers in transition.
Looking back at that series you can clearly see that the warriors had the mental edge, if we could just have fixed a few errors we could have easily have won that series. But because there was so much pressure on us it was tough. But I won't sweat it anymore because I believe that good things will eventually happen for us.![]()
The Warriors were hot, they had a decisive edge in coaching, and they DID present matchup problems with a big backcourt of Davis and Richardson being guarded by Devin and Jet. I wasn't THAT surprised by what happened. My prediction before the series was Mavs in 6 or 7, I did not think it would be easy at all. I still think if we hadn't choked that 4th Q lead in G4 that we would've won the series.
Last years team was good and all but in the end...they simply werent good enough. Maybe we could of won that series if we won game 4, but if our coaching staff couldnt figure out how to ing adjust in a series or wanted to hold back things (like running and gunning) due to it somewhat changing the style we normally play, then that alone shows why this team wasnt a championship contender.
Those demons of the 2006 Finals also played a factor regardless of what the team tells the press. You dont forget about losing in the finals which hasnt even been 2 years since that time. That stays with you every single second of every single day. Only a championship can erase those demons for good.
Correction: Josh Howard was the only guy who consistently had good first halves in the series against the Warriors.
We don't really have to play them. Just gotta win a le. We already know they will never win one playing the style they play.
And if Yao didn't go down the Rockets would be challenging the Lakers or the all time winning streak and have a 4+ game lead in the WConference.
See how that all works?
DD
No. Even with Yao, they would not have won more than they did. They very likely would have won less. You fail.
You do realize the team was 16-0 with Yao before he went out with an injury...
I think it is YOU who is failing.....
DD
You do realize the team was also barely above .500 right before that, having Yao the entire time.
BTW - You do realize ALSO, that they were only 12-0 before Yao went out. Try keeping tabs on your own in team first before trying to tell us all about what the Mavericks "problems" are.
You ing fail.
stupid Rocket Fan doesn't even know what's going on with his own team!
Man,
Not sure how I missed this, but the Rockets were 16-0 with Yao, they lost one game when Yao was out with the flu (Utah game at home)...thus they had won the last 16 games in which he played.
Of course Stretch and Mono piling on without knowing what they were talking about.
Typical......now cue the crickets..............
DD
We were talking about the winning streaks. If they lost, they lost, whether they had Yao or not, thus those extra 4 games were not a part of the winning streak.
How do you explain the near .500 record prior to the streak? They had Yao for most all of those.
