dude, do you really think kyoto and corn ethanol are related in dubya's brain?

do you really think dubya was intimidated by the world's response to his not signing Kyoto?

You're right on about the subsidies. Corn is not the answer...it's just an ez way to Ethanol but it's horribly inefficient.

BTW...your congressmen/congresswomen have more to do with the subsidy issue than Bush.

Not defending Bush...he's in waay over his head.
But c'mon...at least try to be accurate.
Whoever thought up this Ethanol bull needs to be taken out and shot. I'm just a dumb ol country boy, and it took me about 2 minutes to sum up what was going to happen once they started this .

Right. The ethanol scam has screwed alot of people over. Because of our environmentalists, millions are going to bed hungry because they can't afford enough corn to feed them (or the meat that eats the corn, and so on). I hope both parties end this boondoggle ASAP and turn to a reliable, cheap source of fuel that we already have -- petroleum.

And, how is food rationing a new thing?

We rationed all kinds of things during World War II. , ask XRay -- he'll tell you about the ration coupons.

I'm not familiar with any environmentalists who were pushing to divert U.S. food production to biofuels. There were, however, three large multinational corporations, a bunch of lobbyists, a majority of Congresspeople from both parties, and a President who thought it to be a splendid idea. We can make insane amounts of money and pretend to do something for the environment at the same time!

And so, the government of the United States of America is going to kill millions, if not tens of millions of people by starvation worldwide, for no reason other than its own stupid meddling in the agricultural economy. In the 21st century, we can do with a single act of Congress what it used to take global pandemics or protracted devastating world wars several years to accomplish! Yay progress!

Apparently our solution to global warming is going to be to implement policies whose consequences in terms of human suffering are worse than those of global warming in the first place. Awesome.

Funny thing, I just read it the other day. Much of the
rationing done during WWII was really not necessary. But
FDR and his bunch thought it was necessary (and maybe
they were right) so people would think they were sacrificing for the war effort. I mean you hear all the
junk now about how we are not putting our full effort into
    the war on terror.

And yes their were coupons for everything. But best I
can remember it really didn't affect things that much in
my small hometown, except for sugar which was needed
for canning. My Grandmother got into trouble with the
rationing board because she sold milk, butter, eggs and
fresh veggies from her farm and didn't get the coupons
for the butter. the cows didn't care about them, they
freely gave the milk without them. Also best I can
remember she never did take them and stayed in hot
water, but she was a hard nose old gal and told them to
    stick it.

And we killed our own stock every year, so meat was
not a problem. Now the folks back in the East in the
big cities, they had a problem I understand.

One other thing. Their first time I was in England was right after WWII and you
needed coupons for candy (sweets coupons, they called them). But we would
"sweet" talk the gals at the candy counter in the movies into selling us candy without
them. Yeah, I was young once.....and did those sort of things.

So, did "sweet talking" the English girls get you anywhere with them?

Yes. I was a bit simplistic in my post. Yours is more accurate, although I am sure there were environmentalists who thought it was a good idea, as well, to turn corn into gasoline.

What a scam! I hope heads roll over this one, from both parties.

this is all just an electing stance all these stupid ass elected officials are using to get their votes from stupid assed voters that think this will solve something. voters are easily to blame as the people up for election. from top to bottom. it's all for money and power. we need a revolution. no i'm not a ron paul supporter, but i hope feel see what kind of "change" is coming our way. yes i "hope" we can.
