Kimbo is a ing joke. He doesn't deserve any of this stupid hype because he hasn't fought anyone. These new hordes of MMA fans are sheep.

Of course he doesn't deserve all the hype...

and yes, he hasn't fought anybody...so how can you declare him a joke (yet)? He's TBD right now IMO...

The only reason I give him the benefit of the doubt is because:

    a. he works very hard
    b. he's been training with Bas for over a year
    c. Bas raves about him

He will most likely be exposed sooner than later...it's just a matter of what caliber fight exposes him...

Thompson won't tell us much if he comes in and bangs and gets KO'd, which he is prone to. If he comes in smart and immediately tries to put him on his back, then maybe we'll at least get to see Kimbo on the ground some. Thompson being with Team Couture now makes me think this will be the gameplan... (although it was NOT his gameplan last time he fought).

I'm getting this from Kimbo being the new face of MMA. Being on the cover of ESPN the mag, and being covered relentlessly by every MMA website, etc. He hasn't done , yet the media and so many fans are making a big deal about him. They obviously are oblivious to the fact that he has fought NO ONE. They don't question that. They see a big thuggish street guy who they feel is marketable. After being an MMA fan since UFC 1, and after all of this time of the powers that be trying to legitimize the sport, you think I want Kimbo to be a representative of MMA?? He sets the image of the sport back years, in my opinion. Until he fights anybody worth a , he is a pure gimmick, nothing else. The sheep are the people who buy into this bull .

And Leonard, I consider him a joke from the way he is being pathetically coddled, and people being impressed by it.

Well anybody that’s been impressed with his fights so far is an idiot…you can’t take anything from them. He’s not the first guy that’s been coddled and built up slowly though…

It IS somewhat of a shame that he’s becoming the face of MMA to the casual or non-fans because he’s not what the sport is about. Hard to say if it’s bad for the sport in general though…I guess it depends what happens in his fights. It’s exposure for the sport. I just hope him and EliteXC don’t F this up. Some of the risk is inherent with the sport…bad cuts happen sometimes. This is not the event to have a bloodbath fight…

True, but not to this extent nor with the added extreme hype.

I've been telling you guys Kimbo is the future. To pull in the casual fan blood and guts is what's going to sell. In boxing it's nationalistic pride with racial undertones, but in MMA it's blood and guts. Not that the "real" fan doesn't see more to what's going on, but the casual fan will always want LA vs Celtics over Spurs vs Detroit. It's much the same in other sports.

That's why I joke that if the UFC or other organization would allow their fighters to use broken bottles and chains it would be the next greatest thing.

I understand a little bit what hes saying with the NBA reference. Casual mma joe or mma newbie thinks Kimbo is an mma superstar. i hear it all the time in class. "Dude Kimbo could kick Liddell's ass"..."Dude i heard Ken Shamrock's fighting kimbo...hey whens he fight o again?" and people think kimbo vs tank is high octane bad ass mma. just read comments on youtube of how clueless average joe is. average joe on the street(not a semi-fan) would rather see Kimbo vs Tank Abbott over Fedor vs Sylvia. its sounds rediculous but i hear it every week in class. i should take a poll. but 2centsworth "blood and guts" comment was rediculous.

I think you're being a little too sensitive. The sport of MMA is not about blood and guts, but unfortunately for the clueless fan it is. The clueless fan is a very big market and there's nothing wrong with making money on that fan base. Unfortunately to do so requires making Kimbo a star.

Ok but I am not sure what Kimbo has to do with that. Explain that a little more.

he's a blood and guts fighter to most people. Marketing him as the next great star is just exploiting that fact. It's perfectly ok to do so even though it rubs the purist the wrong way.

Ahhh ok. Thank you for explaining.

    I agree 100% with this.

This is what the UFC (before its current owners back in the 90's) used to advertise the sport as. It has taken a long time to move away from that and Shaw IMO will do his best to bring it right back to that being an ex boxing promoter (no trolling here.)

boxing has a good formula just not enough fighters to implement. USA boxing is killing the sport.

Boxing has a horrible formula. If someone came in and formed a solid organization that didn't allow s like Shaw and King to have any say it would be back in business within 5 years (back in business as in growing instead of holding steady) and stronger than ever.

Thompson being with Team Couture now makes me think this will be the gameplan... (although it was NOT his gameplan last time he fought).
Correction...not training at Xtreme Couture anymore…

He will probably get knocked out of a if a strand of Kimbo's beard glances him.

I hope Kimbo has a good career as MMA needs HW's bad but I am so sick of hearing about Kimbo.
