I live in this area and read about this all the time. The biggest Spur Hater here is Tony Kornheiser, who believes the only teams that should EVER play for the NBA le are his Knicks, the Lakers, and the Celtics. Because this hasn't been happening recently, you will notice that he seldom watches NBA games, preferring to go to bed when Wilbon asks him what games he's gonna watch. Yet he can always say on his show how boring the Spurs are.

The Wizards coach, Jordan, thinks the Spurs are the best.

Kornheiser isn't a basketball fan. So when he says he wants to see the Lakers and Celtics, that's casual fan talk. Dude doesn't really give a about who plays. He won't even be awake when the games are played anyway

It's similar to the Yankees, Patriots, Cowboys, etc. When a team is consistently good, many fans get tired of then winning all of the time. I think the Spurs are victims of the underdog syndrome, where casual fans always want the unknown team to win.

In any era prior to the '80s Lakers, the Spurs would be universally admired for their teamwork, awesome defense, and ego-less players. Society has become all about the individual, so the Spurs buck that trend and are often vilified for it.

I hated the Bulls and Yankees for winning all the time too. I totally get where all those bags are coming from. ' em though

But the real reason is that the Spurs continue to resemble the old geezers who show up at the YMCA each weekend, yell "Next!" and somehow figure out a way to hold the court against a bunch of uppity kids.

The 1960's Celtics, who won 11 les in 13 years, are the greatest NBA dynasty ever. That's especially painful for me to admit, since so many of those les came at the expense of the Lakers. You're welcome for this knowledge I'm dropping on you.

Maybe that matters to the historians and debaters that doesn't change the fact that the Spurs are 4 time NBA Champions and have 4 trophys to show for it....no matter how it was done. So continue to talk smack, disrespect, whatever....the bottom line is the Spurs have won as many les this decade as the Lakers.
