Well, my personal expectations of him is simple. He has been running the Spurs system in Austin quite well. He could help TD with his athleticism in the paint and needs to focus on executing on both ends of the floor. He should be more offense than Oberto, KT or Horry me thinks.

Ian's got no fear, without being an aggressive jerk.

Just stay healthy, watch those damn PFs, pay attention, keep working hard, his future looks bright.

I think we're expecting way too much from Mahinmi...he'll pretty much meet my expectations this season if he can manage to stay under the age of 30, actually jump for rebounds/blocks, and land 15-20 mpg.

The same posters who will be starting "Ian is a bust" threads when he has a lackluster game next season.

Weren't there a number of Spurs fans that expected Jackie Butler to be good enough to end up as the Spurs starting center at some point a couple seasons ago?

He might just change things enough.
Agreed on this. He simply needs to be a compliment to Timmy at this point, similar to what D. Rob was on the downside of his career:

    1) Block or alter layups/driving dunks (especially alley-oops)

    2) Rebound...particularly on the offensive side of the ball when Tim's point-blank shots come off the rim

    3) Although this might take some time to develop, learn to work the "high-low" play with our bigs...particularly Timmy

The perimeter players will handle the bulk of the scoring load at this point so he shouldn't really need to be anywhere close to a main option, but merely a bonus who can get his on second-chance opportunities.

I really don't see why Ian can't succeed as a player. So many promising young guys out of school or college fail because of at ude problems and failure to work at their games. But Ian doesn't strike me as that type of guy from what I've heard and looking at the path he has taken. He's got the height and athleticism, a work ethic and good at ude. He is a decent FT shooter which tells me he is coordinated and has some offensive potential. Now he just needs a chance.

He has the right at ude.

Pop will yell at him all season long and Tony will translate.

If Mahinmi were in this draft, where would he get drafted? Hmmm ... that's a good question. Seeing how he was dominant in the D-League, I'm guessing that'd look good to scouts.

I'd probably guess 8-12. Maybe higher since a lot of "unnamed league execs" have gushed about him all year long. Those that think he'll be a future all-star might take him even higher than 8.

"Mahinmi has the potential to be an All-Star," an Eastern Conference executive said.

    Yes.

Of course, it would take the Spurs striking out on someone else for Pop to give him a shot at the rotation.

It's weird, how Spurs fans are bemoaning the lack of any young talent in the pipeline and whining about it all being over when this guy is coming in. Oh well, Spurs fans are Spurs fans.
