Juan Dixon is like Pargo ... except even less of a true point guard. Since the Spurs looked at Pargo, I'm guessing they will now at least offer Dixon a minimum contract.

Dixon is decent, I wouldn't mind if the Spurs picked him up.
He couldn't hurt I guess but I don't think picking him up would upgrade the team much...
i figure mostly anybody is better than a 28th pick PG rookie right?

Why even talk about this guy, he sucks.
Juan Dixon 07-08
5 ppg in 12.6 mpg
41.1% FG
41.7% 3PT
*
Michael Finley
10.1 ppg in 26.9 mpg
41.4% FG
37% 3PT
I'm warming up to him, as the options shrink. With Dixon as the 3rd SG in the depth charts, can the Spurs reasonably hope for something like this: Manu with 16-19 ppg, Mason with 10-12 ppg, and Dixon with 5-6 ppg? That wouldn't be terrible. My one concern is that the Spurs would be on their way to becoming a smaller team with two somewhat undersized SGs. Not too many options at this point... Julius Hodge?
i dont like Dixon, he looks very bad last season in Toronto, and he also can't play PG at all!

We are the Spurs.
Give us your tired, your poor
I hold a contract in my hands
Inside the FO's door.
i still have the juan dixon hometown hero rookie jersey.
great guy.
BUMP
Still unsigned. He's a 2 for small lineups who can hit a couple of shots and he's a veteran. However 6'3" 165 lbs frame is very slight of build and can be taken advantage of as a defender.
Question: Is George Hill, at 6'2" 180 lbs. a similar option for the Spurs? Provided he can learn from Chip to knock down shots at the pro level, would he not be a better option defensively? He can rebound better than Juan does. The mystery is whether his scoring will come.
I've been on the Juan Dixon bandwagon all summer. He's cheap scorer who could now especially help with Manu out. For anything south of a 2-year, $4M deal, Dixon is a solid signing. For a minimum contract he's a no-brainer.
At worst he's a player you bring in when the team goes on a scoring drought. At best he might be able to play backup point for the Spurs and then also swing next to Parker when the matchups allow.
Nuggets should have brought him in![]()
Unless they move some players I just don't see Dixon as a good fit. I'm actually a fan of Dixon but the Spurs need more size on the wing defensively. Plus, I think Hill's game offensively (assuming he's here?) won't be too much different than what Dixon could offer.
Hill shot the ball at over 50% for his career in college and shot 45% from the three in his junior year (IIRC). I know Hill's shooting in the summer league was brutal, but the kids head must have have been spinning trying to learn the point on the fly. From everything I've seen and heard about Hill, this isn't a J.Vaughn or B.Knight situation. He doesn't need to learn how to shoot, he just needs the game to slow down for him mentally so he can begin to play natrually and gain the confidence back in his stroke. I'm pretty confident he'll turn out to be a pretty solid player when it's all said and done.
D.McGuire, W.Chandler, either of the S.Williams, are the type of guys I'd like to see the Spurs pick up. Guys that bring size and versatility to the wing is something the Spurs are truly lacking.
dont sign him - even not for the minimum, he is a bad player and he can't play the point
Hahah.
I don't know much about him, took a look at his stats.
- He's been on 4 teams in his 6 years.
- He's averaged something like 10 minutes.
- 6'3 and 160 pounds seems a bit on the light side.
- He has quite a few turnovers: 1.7 Assists to 1.25 turnovers.
I suppose if he's cheap, he's probably more useful than Stoudamire.
He would be a great signing. Especially for the regular season.
Wizards Sign Juan Dixon
Sep 23, 2008 5:02 PM EST
Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has signed free agent guard Juan Dixon. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
“Juan is a proven NBA player and we like what he brings to our team,” said Grunfeld. “He is a tough, hard-nosed compe or who can score and his familiarity with our system is an added plus.”
Dixon (6-3, 165) was originally selected by Washington with the 17th overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft out of the University of Maryland, where he led the Terrapins to the NCAA le and captured Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2002 Final Four. During his first tenure with the Wizards, the Baltimore native averaged 8.2 points and 1.6 assists in 176 games over three seasons (2002-03 through 2004-05).
“I’m excited to return to the area and to resume my career with the Wizards,” said Dixon. “I’m looking forward to the start of training camp and I’m ready to step in and contribute wherever Coach Jordan and the team sees fit.”

Dammit he is at the very least a good shooter that can hit open shots with some regularity. Another one bites the dust.........
My guess is that the Spurs were trying to decide between him or Stoudamire.
We should get Salim...
Looks like in the world of ballhogish smallish point guardish defensiveless chuckers, the Spurs power rankings were Pargo > Stoudamire > Dixon.
