Do the Spurs really need this guy? With free agency, the draft, and Mahinmi coming in I think they will be in much better shape than most seem to think.

i dont know about others here, but im just a pessimist.

i dont think mahinmi is going to have as big an impact next year as some others think (best case, hes fighting for minutes with bonner, with bonner getting the upper hand early IMO). i dont have very high hopes for a solid scorer in free agency (too many restricted free agents). and im not in love with too many players with #26 at this point (id rather have jack and know exactly what im getting, with the hope of even slight improvement).

im not "doom & gloom" about our situation (i think we will be well enough regardless), im just not as optimistic as some others about who we can actually acquire and their impact on the team next season.

They can probably acquire Pietrus this summer via free agency. That, and a healthy Ginobili, would be enough for the swingman rotation.

As for Mahinmi, well, we'll see. A way to think about him is like Jack back in '02. If the Spurs had the option to have assigned Jack to the Toros in the 2001-02 season they probably would have. What happened the following season?

That's "Jack" as in NBA World Champion Stephen Jackson....
