Very nice. A big win. Tim didn't have to play much. Mason and Hill and Ahearn increase their experience and confidence. I'm thinking that when Manu and Tony return, we quickly become the second or third best team in the West. And if we can somehow add a decent big, then LA better watch out.

I'm glad one of the bigs played well tonight (besides the great one of course), though I'd still not be sad if I never saw Bonner in a Spurs uniform again

Once Manu and TP come back, we are one functional big away from being a contender again... let's pray that Mahinmi is ready.

Here's to George Hill and Roger Mason, and to Bonner who looks a lot better lately... and even grudgingly to Finley, who I still think is a waste of a roster spot, but has been playing well for the last 5 games or so.

    TP Hill
    Mason Manu
    Bowen Udoka
    Duncan Bonner
    Oberto Mahinmi

That could turn into a fearsome lineup.
Don't forget Finley. He's wicked right now.

I wish the Spurs could play a team even more decimated by injuries than they are every night until the other guys come back. Zero blocks, and not being able to outrebound a shorthanded opponent is a concern, but the young guys need minutes.

    Final: Spurs 119, Jazz 94
    FOURTH QUARTER

Roger Mason Jr. hit seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 29 points as the hot-shooting Spurs sped past the Utah Jazz 119-94.

The Spurs have won four of their last five games. This is the first time in that stretch the Spurs won by more than three points.

Mason, was 10 of 17 from the field and closing in on his career high of 32, but spent the final nine minutes of the game relaxing on the bench. His 3-pointers made matched his career high.

George Hill came off the bench and gave the Spurs a burst with 15 points in the first half. He finished with a career-high 23 points.

Tim Duncan had 16 points. He made 6 of 6 from the free-throw line and had seven rebounds.

Through three quarters, when the Spurs were relying on their key healthy players, they shot 57.9 percent from the floor overall and made 12 of 19 (63.2 percent) from 3-point range.

The Spurs starters are on the bench with nine minutes left. Hill, Ime Udoka, Bruce Bowen, Anthony Tolliver and Kurt Thomas are on the floor. The Spurs lead 103-77.

The Spurs hit the 100-point mark in only one of their first 11 games. Tonight they reached 100 points on a Mason 3-pointer with 10:24 left in the game.

    THIRD QUARTER

Mason is up to six 3-pointers and 26 points and the Spurs carry a 95-71 lead into the fourth quarter. With 12 minutes to play, the Spurs have more points than their final total in any of their last seven games. Hill has 21 points.

Mason hit his fourth 3-pointer to start the second half. He and Duncan are up to 16 points. The teams are trading baskets early in the half and the Spurs lead 73-63.

    SECOND QUARTER

The Spurs shot nearly 60 percent the first half and received a lot of points from their perimeter scorers to take a 61-53 halftime lead.

Mason, Hill and Matt Bonner combined to hit 7 of 8 from 3-point range.

Hill was up to 17 points before he went to the bench with his third foul with 3:31 left in the second quarter. The Spurs lead 53-41.

Michael Finley's third basket of the second quarter gave him 11 points and put the Spurs in front 42-29.

Finley and Mason combined to hit three 3-pointers and score 11 points in the first three minutes of the second quarter. The Spurs took a 40-27 lead.

    FIRST QUARTER

Hill scored 10 points in the last five minutes of the first quarter and the Spurs finished the period with a 29-24 lead after trailing by nine points.

Hill and Bonner were the first players off the Spurs' bench with 6:23 left in the first quarter. Both hit a 3-pointer within two minutes of getting into the game. The Jazz kept up their hot shooting, hitting better than 80 percent from the field for the first seven minutes of the game.

The Jazz hit their first five shots of the game to jump out to a 15-11 lead. Finley had two early baskets for the Spurs. Mason, starting at point guard, made a 3-pointer on his first shot attempt.

    PREGAME

Spurs starters: Roger Mason Jr., Michael Finley, Bruce Bowen, Tim Duncan and Fabricio Oberto. George Hill and Jacque Vaughn, who have seen most of the playing time at point guard with Tony Parker out, both begin the game on the bench.

Utah's Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams, both normal starters, are out.

Spurs starters: Roger Mason Jr., Michael Finley, Bruce Bowen, Tim Duncan and Fabricio Oberto.

Utah's Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams, both normal starters, are out.

Two battered teams will hit the AT&T Center court tonight when the Spurs take on the Utah Jazz. Both teams should expect to be powers in the Western Conference this season yet both will play tonight with key players on the sidelines.

Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili remain out, though Ginobili might be back soon. See Jeff McDonald's blog on Ginobili

The Spurs, despite their injuries and struggles, have won three of their last four overall and two of their last three home games.

The Jazz have won their last two games, including Wednesday's 105-94 home-court victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. But they also added to a list of injuries similar to what the Spurs have been facing.

I also said during the last game that we needed to run more. Tonight we ran a lot more and the offense was a lot better.

Trying to grind it out against Denver was not a good idea.

I don't care if Utah has injuries because we do too. It was a fair game IMO.

Right on. I can't take it as too awesome of a win, as I had no idea the Jazz were this shorthanded. But those RMJ 3's sure did look sweet

Eh, they were rebounding well in the third quarter when the game was semi in doubt.

The 4th quarter was bad, but the Spurs were up 28 at times, so the rebounding wasn't as bad as the stats look.

Fun game to watch, at least. Hill was amazing in his first couple of stints. And the Jazz may want to start guarding that Mason guy . . . .
