Unfortunately, I don't think the US will have another chance quite like this one to advance past the quarterfinals. They got an easy group, and an even easier knockout stage bracket. They're going to have bust their ass next time. More so than they did this WC.

Either way, congrats on a very good WC campaign. No shame in going home in the knockout stage when you play with this much heart.

Playing like the first half of every game then trying to come back =/= let's be happy about our effort
Hey, most football pundits thought USA was relatively easy pickings coming into this thing--got every right to be proud of the effort.

True enough, but like Maniac said, this was a golden opportunity wasted imo

It was a good game. Good effort. Unfortunately it looks like the US always have one more defensive up up their sleeves. Eventually, you run out of miraculous comebacks.

I'm proud of this team. First and foremost I'm extremely proud of this team. They faced a of a lot of adversity throughout the entire cup and eventually they came up dry when trying to combat it but that doesn't mean they didn't fight very hard and show a of a lot of resilience.

Obviously I'd prefer for them to win today, but I think they started with a sub par lineup and they got beat by a couple of individual plays that were excellent - especially the 2nd goal - but I don't think they need to hang their heads in any way.

I don't know if it will catch on more here in the US but I suspsect any gains by the MLS will be small but noticeable but really I am happy with the effort put forth and the atmosphere at the places I went to were amazing. (FREEETAIL SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP) Its coming along and thats good enough for me.

In the end, the haters are gona hate and are gonna remind us how we don't have any world class players and how we suck but those are the same people who told us we'd not score and rooney would walk all over us and that we'd still be in the group stage.

i the haters because they were wrong.

I love US soccer and can't wait for 2014 - you es better not pray we don't get 2018 because if you thought the vuvuzelas were obnoxious you have no idea what 100,000s of drunk US fans will sound like. We'll wreck you.

    DON'T TREAD ON THIS, ES.

The next step for the USA is to get a world class coach. Once they do that, they will be able to make the jump to the next level.

I disagree--I've never seen the depth of coverage of a World Cup that I've seen this year. Soccer is here by a toehold, but here to stay.

That said, I think for the long-term future, it'll be consigned to an olympic-like status for American viewers. Something to get into fervently while it's ongoing, but not a year-in/year-out mainstay. Our domestic sports are just too popular and afford far more favorable notoriety at home.

yea....im just glad i don't punch walls like i used to

It was all on the coach.....he never know what the best lineup was and he seemed unprepared for every match. We have too many defensive midfielders and he didn't even play the best one....SONG

We didn't even qualify 4 four years ago because of a missed penalty so it's a small step up. Eto'o is a primadonna but he always shows heart on the field.....at least we're not France

This sucks, but they improved upon last world cup. If they can improve again next world cup and get to the quarters then soccer in America is definitely on the right track. Only problem is Donovan will be 32. In the next 4 years some youngsters are gonna have to step up.

USA should try to get Guus Hiddink for the next World Cup! I think that would be a perfect combination.

For US Soccer to improve IMO, they need a coach with a technical pedigree. US has to be able to move the ball around better and generate possession....that most likely means a european/south american coach. Edu has played brilliantly and Bradley puts in Clark after realizing he has made a mistake....that's stubborn-ness. In the process, Bradley has killed Clark's confidence. It's time for a new coach to come in but I doubt that will happen. These mistakes would be punished by another other country's federation
