The beauty of this coaching staff is that TX is only a piece of the recruting puzzle. Brown had to rely 99.9% on texas recruits and it appears Strong has assembled guys who can recruit all over the country.
For christsakes we got Austin. This is not Baton Rouge, College Station, Tuscaloosa... We have a head start, use it.

That's because the paysites have lost their sources. Burton's source was Mack and he's gone.
Thats a plus. But not getting the top kids in Texas, especially East Texas, is troubling. We know that some are raised on ATM and we don't have a chance. But the infiltration of Alabama and LSU... That's got to change.
New DB coach Chris Vaughn will handle most of the Special Teams duties as well as coaching DB's, per 24/7.
Agree on the first part, completely disagree on the MacII part.
Before Brown came aboard, John Macovich was probably the best recruiter Texas ever had, the year before he was fired his recruiting class had Quintin Jammer, Kasey Hampton, Kwame Cavil, Leonard Davis, Hodges Mitc , and Shaun Rodgers. That is a pretty damn good recruiting class.
MacII was an arrogant prick to the BMA and that is what ultimately got his ass fired, well that and the fact that he couldn't coach defense to save his life. He preferred wine and cheese over beer and pretzels and that again put a riff between him and the alumni. But as far as relations go with the high schools he wasn't anywhere near as bad as Fred Akers was at treating the high school coaches like crap. Of course he wasn't anywhere close to being as good as Mack Brown was either.
Which is basically what was implied.
No way, no way Macovich recruited well after the beginning. We did not have a good slew of defensive recruits like MackI and JM was a prick to the HS coaches. The guy was completely aloof. He was one guy that was a horrible fit, good offensive coach but horrible fit. He also tried to force feed race relations and made it worse among the players. The kids play a major role in this, he tried to cram guys together that would not like each other no matter what color they were. Clueless about kids.
It should also be noted that some HS coaches completely lose their seniors after the season because they don't give a damn about the kid except being on camera when "their" kid signs. But a significant number keep their kids loyal all the way through and the HS coach actually cares about the kid and his college experience. These are the coaches the recruiters need to have good relations with.
A radio guy from Alabama, Clint Gannon, says that Texas and Alabama are in a bidding war for Ed Orgeron. I guess Alabama wants him as a DL coach and Gannon says that Texas wants him as an assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator. I don't see how it matches up numbers wise. Texas has 6 of it's 9 assistants in place and needs a TE coach (some says Chambers will be retained) a WR coach and QB coach/offensive coordinator. The only way I can see it fits is if the WR coach (Wyatt preferably) and Wickline will share the TE coaching.
I don't know that Gannon guy or his credibility, but thought it was worth posting.
Anyone feel like Wyatt might be the OC? Or at least co-OC with possibly Wickline?
He's the one guy most people felt would be retained and we haven't heard word on him yet.
Oh god!!!!! If that's the case, Strong will be gone in four years!
/just getting it out of the way
Great interview with Duane Akina after leaving Texas:

Longhorn Scoop @LonghornScoop
HUGE news from Texas could happen at any moment regarding coaching staff. When we say HUGE, we mean HUGE. Let's just leave it at… #HookEm
Longhorn Scoop @LonghornScoop
Texas has found their man. Who? We can't let the cat out of the bag just yet. Frost? Riley? Morris? None of the above? Just wait and see.
I'm being told from a level one source that the news is awesomely hugely epic.
It's all clear now. It has all been smoke and mirrors up to now. It has been an intricate ruse so as to give the power players behind the scenes time to negotiate and finalize the real hire. They are in fact about to reveal that the actual HC of the Texas Longhorns will be none other than THE Nick Saban...
Oh, glorious day.
@jeff_maddog

Was that the big news?
Nah...we already knew he was history.
