Getting taken apart by TCU is very possible.
A few thoughts on the game.
I watched most of the game in a Houston Sports bar. Took my daughter and friends to Beyounce Concert. I missed the 2nd half of the 4th quarter when they called me they were ready to be picked up at about 10:15. The following is my impressions of the game.
1. Sam - I saw some progress, he did a good job of throwing away the ball and not taking a sack or trying to force a bad play. He still isn't an accurate passer, about 1 in 4 passes are on their mark, maybe 1 in 5. He forces our receivers to make some great plays just to catch some of his balls. On the passes that are on the money, our receivers are scary good. I think Sam is going to be good if he can figure out how to throw the ball between 10 and 20 yards. I keep telling my self it took Vince 4 years at Texas to figure out how to throw the ball.
2. That was a safety, we got away with one there. Oh well, it makes up for the phantom fumble by Watson.
3. Something has to change in the game of college football with the targeting rule. By definition that was a good call on BJ Foster, but it's just impossible to enforce, BJ was 4 inches taller than the receiver, how is he supposed to tackle the kid? And the penalty for a targeting should not keep him out of the next game. That is just ridiculous.
4. Caden Sterns - is a generational player, i'm calling it now. He is on the level of Derek Johnson and Earl Thomas and such. He is an amazing play maker.
5. This was a tough test for the offensive line, and I think they played well. I've been saying that over these first 3 games this line has been good enough to effectively run our offense. This game they upped their play to another level. This is good because the next 3 games are against equal or better defensive fronts.
6. Dbs started the game very shakey, but got better as the game progressed. Can't do that against TCU or blOwU and expect to win. TCU would put up 40 on this defense in the 1st half if they come in like they did in the 1st half. They need to know they have to bring their "A" game for all 4 quarters next week.
7. What I said about the DBs goes for the whole defense because they generated zero pass rush against USC for most of the game. I think as the game wore on the USC big uglies started to get tired and things opened up on both sides of the ball.
8. We have a Kicker, need I say more.
9. Our punter reminds me of Michael son....As a freshmen. son cost us a couple of games he was so bad, but he got better and I think Bujcevski will eventually figure it out, but it's going to be some growing pains.
10. This was a great win for the program, it wasn't a perfect win but it was hard fought. But make no mistakes, Texas was aided by some stupid USC plays along the way. USC is in as bad a shape as Texas is, maybe worse, many of the good things that happened to Texas were a direct result of a bad play by SC. That isn't going t happen over the next 3 weeks, those teams don't make stupid mistakes.

Very good take on the game. I would have liked to have had another QB in the game last couple of series. Rising in specfic.
Way to piss in my Sunday cup of coffee.

The officiating crew was a Big XII Crew. Mike Defee was the ref. They did botch the safety call IMO but can not determine conclusively whether his knee was down. I will take any handouts from the officials or replay. I feel we have been on the losing end of close calls in the last 10 years.
The defense played loose in the first half. Obvious pressure in the 2nd half was a big key to the 2nd half shutout. The special teams play scares me... FG’s just because of the past and punting because of the present activities.
Thank god for Shane knowing how to get rid of the ball for a change. The run game is getting better....slowly. I like when we throw the ball downfield. It’s the WOW factor.
Overall, it’s a BIG win over another mediocre team.
Let the recruiting start
