So Pop told LMA to shop around, told him what the important questions to ask were, and said at the end of it let's get back together and tell me what you learned. Are the Spurs the best fit for what you want or is somebody else?

So if LMA goes and asks Pop's questions to a bunch of other teams (which would be indicated if his questions were unusually poignant for a FA) that means he already trusts and buys into Pop. It also means Pop can simultaneously convince LMA that SA is the best fit, AND use him for some intelligence-gathering on other teams.
