It is a CAT 5 now. Anderson Cooper should not be riding this thing out. Nobody should. You'd think after Katrina people would understand that.
Boutons, yes. I really don't think people in San Antonio have a large need to board up, though. You'd be better off going outside and making sure your trees are trimmed and there isn't anything loose around your house.

Effective immideately Aransas County Judge Glenn Gilloury is calling for an evacuation of Aransas County for all elderly people, a mandatory evacuation will take effect for Aransas County at 3 PM Wednesday 09/21/05. We are calling for a mandatory evacuation with citizens leaving the county no later than Thursday afternoon. Staging point for those citizens needing to leave the county who do not have transportation is the Live Oak Elem. School on Griffith Dr. off of FM 1069. Recommended evacutation route is Texas HWY 35 North to Tivoli, turn left on 239, go west to Goliad, turn right going north on 183 to the Austin area, and points further north.
Based on the conference call we had with the National Weather Service at 9:30 AM today, Hurricane Rita is currently a Cat. 4 Hurricane with 140 mph winds and it is tracking to go inland at Port OConner, TX (Calhoun County), with hurricane force winds reaching out 100 miles on the north east quad and 60 miles to the South east quad. We are at high risk of being effected by this hurricane. If it does not make the last minute right hook that it is predicted to do, it could effect Aransas County even more. We are to excpect a tidal surge and tropical storm wind by Friday night.

My family has a summer condo in Port Aransas 2 blocks from the beach. My family is debating leaving in a few hours to try to board up and sandbag around the south windows/door. I guess I'd have as hard a time getting down there as I would getting back.
Mijo, I think theyd' be wasting their time. Look at Gulfport from the air. That is what you can expect on the coast. The House is as good as gone, boarding up is not going to help.

Dude, north Mississippi, six hours from landfall, got rocked from Katrina. If memory serves they had extensive wind damage 300 miles inland.SA is 150 miles from the water, 11 or 12 hours for the hurricane to lose energy overland, and at this point, SA is 75 - 100 miles away from the mean storm path.
I don't think SA, or any point 150 mi from the coast, will get anything by TS winds, 40 - 50 mph max. Comments?

These condos are constructed of CMU and resemble more of an apartment complex. They've withstood other hurricanes in the past although it has been subject to flooding.
