If DeRozan opts out, Spurs get nothing, right?

Is there a scenario in which the Spurs profit in any way?
    Yes. Sign and Trade.

I think SnT he can get more money/years and still has say where he goes, that is why he would not just outright opt out.

That is indeed the “holdup”. He and Spurs want a new direction and they are working on deals (nothing guaranteed as I’ve said).

He will either be traded or if they can’t work it out he will leave in free agency

DeRozan leaving is addition by subtraction tbh, even if he simply walks. Still makes the Nephew trade look worse and worse by the day, however.

He is going to be the best FA this year. Which means the most teams fighting over him. Even if he ends up in the 25 or so a year deal that could be better then what he gets next year. Next year he will be much lower on the FA list. Yes more teams will have money but that may get spent before it gets to him so he could end up with less.

    1) because he wants to play for a winner and knows Sa isn’t paying him
    2) he would opt out and either a) be a top free agent and secure a lot more long term money (instead of 27m maybe he gets 88M/4 years) or b) gets sign and traded to a winning team that he wants that doesn’t have cap space to sign him outright

both are expected to be back with their own team and not even listen to other offers. FA in name only.

As rich as he already is I just think he doesn’t like SA at all. Dude has options. SA is a HUGE little town.

Now days I guess not the worst charges ever. I thought Minnesota was stupid-tolerant of like that? BLM? Guess not.

LOL. Beasley was always a ing moron, but this is a new level. A couple and their 13 year old kid were on the parade of homes, and pulled up to his house - and dumb came out and told them to get the off his property. Which would have been okay if he hadn't pointed a damn AR at the driver's head. Some of his people tried to leave the house, the cops stopped them, and Beasley is out on the lawn screaming at the cops. That got the cops a warrant, and they went in and found his pound-and-a-half stash. The part that made me laugh was that there was a notebook with instructions on how to smoke it. "Inhale, Malik. You're not Bill Clinton... just ing inhale!"

Minny better be thinking how to use that first round pick to replace him.

DeRozan is a high quality player. He had awesome efficiency numbers last year for the Spurs and it is one of the reasons that so many contending teams would like to get him. Their issue is not his talent, it's finding the money when a contending team is already near the max and it's coming up with assets that the Spurs would want in a sign and trade without giving up too much. All the contenders would want him. He's a guy that can get his own shot at the end of a game if a play breaks down and the shot clock is expiring. He's also shown that he can be a high end playmaker.

Hopefully, he gets signed and traded for whatever dead weight comes with the much coveted picks.

'21 and' 22 drafts should be stacked.

Per league sources: teams, players and agents will be informed of adjusted deadlines for options, guarantees, qualifying offers and extensions this Friday. That is when teams will be informed of the new deadlines, not the date to exercise them.
