They're building towards the business end of the year, and I really like the way they've picked up the D during and since the RRT. Lately, the extra gear has been evident on D, and it's good to know that it's there.

I'd like to see TD get two or three less minutes, but yeah, minutes look good.

Nah. The officiating was very loose, but the Spurs were allowed their fair share of hacking and holding as well. The game would have been a blowout if the Spurs had shot consistently throughout the game instead of going cold at times, such as opening the 2nd half 6 for 20. Can't complain too much as they had just played a close game last night in a midwestern city before flying to Jersey for this early evening tip.
I actually am disappointed at the amount of whining from Duncan this game. Sure he was getting held and hacked, but the officials were allowing the Spurs to hold and hack quite a bit as well. Gotta realize the game is being called loosely and just adapt to it. Instead he let it get him off his game and picked up a T in the 4th.
Bad things? 3 point defense and not really ripping the Nets' heart out when they had the chance. Still, overall it was a well played Spurs game. Hard to argue with holding their opponent to 35% from the floor, outrebounding them, and holding them to 8 assists.
Thomas was efficient on the glass with 9 boards in 17 minutes. Hopefully his J will start to drop. He looked like he gets Spurs Basketball, which is a very good sign.
Once again, you go down in the post and get the beat out of you and see how you handle it.
I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the other team seems to miss a lot of shots when Kurt Thomas is on the court.
LOL i'm going to add to that. YOU're talking about TONIGHT Wiskydog, now take it ONE STEP further - You GO DOWN IN THE POST and get the beaten out of you all season then TELL ME how you like it.
Don't worry about adjusting tonight. Tim's been getting that treatment ALL season.
Sorry if I sound a little harsh, but if Dirk can get 21 free throws in a game I don't understand why Tim does not get at least 10 a game.
I completely missed this game. I thought it was at 8
I'm counting on that Timvp game recap!
Yup, I used to play in the post, and there's nothing more frustrating than watching as all the little guys on the court get ticky tack calls while you're collecting cuts and bruises under the rim for nothing.
T Park, Ice... I get your points but Duncan isn't the only guy in the league getting held and hacked on the low block. It's part of basketball, and Duncan is usually very good at not letting a loose called game take him out of his game. Tonight he let the lack of calls take him out of his game, and he picked up a T in the 4th when the game was still to be decided. I know he was frustrated, but you can't pick up that T in the 4th. Luckily the Nets suck enough and Parker sparked the daggers that ended it, but it was somewhat of a loss of composure by TD in the 4th.
Its part of the game?
bs.
Im sorry I can't accept that getting beat up in the post like Dirk but shooting only 4 6 or 8 FTs a damn game..
Dirk getting touch calls that night was bull .
This is a different game and a different night, and tonight the officials were calling a loose game (meaning they were letting the post play be more physical than normal). They called it on both ends for the most part, there were many times when Boone got hacked by TD, Thomas, or whoever and didn't get calls. Diop a couple of times as well.
BTW, if you don't think physicality in the paint is just part of the game in the NBA then you don't know much about the NBA. I know you're thinking that getting held and hacked aren't part of the game, but if the game is being called consistently that way on both ends there isn't anything you can do except keep your composure, tough it out, and battle your ass off. TD usually does all three well in loosely called games, but tonight he failed to a degree in the composure department. Not a very big deal, but out of character for one of the best post players of all time.
I don't whine about officiating much...but, when it's warranted, it's warranted. There was a big difference in the way the game was called tonight. If you didn't see it, fine. I did...and so did TD, and many others. And it wasn't just about TD...he's just the one who made it known. He's our leader after all and I'll take that T in a game like this from our leader any day of the week. It was needed.
Game woulda been a blowout the way the Spurs were playing.
Anyway, I hate talking about officiating, I'm done with it. We won despite it, nothing could stop us tonight. Good game
Maybe your Spurs glasses didn't allow you to see the Nets' guys getting held and hacked as well, but it did happen. We're gonna just have to disagree, but make sure to watch both ends when looking at the officiating.
I don't know many teams the Spurs blow out when they shoot as poorly in stretches as they did tonight. 6-20 to open the 2nd half? Cold stretches to finish the 1st quarter and start the 2nd? Don't blow out many teams like that.
Ya see its this bull i hate.
You don't need spurs glasses to see Duncan was getting hacked like a damn field of corn tonight, and wasn't
getting SQUAT.
No, but what kept you from seeing Boone and others on the Nets getting held and hacked as well? It was very loosely officiated, but on both sides.
No need to get all emotional with the "Ya see its this bull i hate" stuff. Keep it logical and make a point. I already said TD got held and hacked, but my point is that the game was being called that way and getting T'd up in the 4th with the game on the line isn't disciplined Spurs basketball.
That's because we don't watch the Nets night in and night out, we watch the Spurs night in and night out and see Tim getting hacked quite often with no foul calls. I really think as far as superstars go Tim gets a lot less calls than most of them.
Duncan rarely gets technicals.
He is the leader of this team, he can make a statement when he feels the need to, whether we agree with it or not.
It cost him what, $5000. to do it? That's a pretty serious statement even with the money he makes.
I'm the first to admit he whines. He can whine too much. But he whines on the court, not off it. And if he was pissed off enough to push and get the T so be it.
Duncan is the definition of "disciplined Spurs basketball."
He was pissed tonight, the no calls finally got to him.
Yeah it was really loose when Oberto got called for standing in front of Vince Carter...
That's the play that really pissed me off the most. Pop should have just went off and picked up a T on that one. Pop should just go up to the refs holding his arms in the air and when the ref touches him to tell him to go back and sit down Pop calls the T on the ref.
I mean really some of these fouls, especially And 1's where the Spurs are standing there with their arms straight up are a joke. These should be NO CALLS most of the time, or if they do call them call it both ways.

Thats a foul.
Yet on the other end Duncan gets a hand to the side and slashed across the arms.
Nothin.
