disagree. Stern's move was 100% financially motivated. you know like 99 out of his 100 every moves.

plus the sponsons definitely lost money on the commercials investment nobody watched
The sponsors make purchases for more than one game. Plus, 1) The ratings were probably as high or higher than they would have been without the controversy 2) The controversy pushed the NBA to the headlines and will probably result in better ratings in the future

The point is the NBA didn't lose any money because this won't affect TV negotiations. TNT didn't lose any money because the ads were already sold. And with the way things played out, TNT and the sponsors will probably be better off because this has got people talking about the NBA ... which usually doesn't happen until after the Super Bowl.

So if you think it wasn't motivated by financial losses, then what problem does Stern have with resting our oldest players?

what difference does that make? to greedy millionaires a buck lost is lost money. Again we are not talking about your or me regular folk. we are talking about greedy money counting billionaires

    1) The ratings were probably as high or higher than they would have been without the controversy
    prove it

    2) The controversy pushed the NBA to the headlines and will probably result in better ratings in the future
Pop, Spurs in the headlines for a few days is not going to result in better ratings. Never did, never will

So if this was not financially motivated, what was the reason of Stern's actions? He geniuinely felt bad for the regular NBA paying folk please

Pop gave a big EFF YOU to the league by doing this in a nationally televised against the defending champs. If he had done the same thing the night before in Orlando, then Stern says nothing. This is an aging dictator asserting his power.

The arguments are dumb. I have a simple solution for improving Stern's product: drop 15 games during the regular season and get rid of back-to-back games. It is absolutely absurd the number of games they play and we see players take games off all the time. They might play in the game, but they do not give 100%. Say what you will but Pop gets the most out of his players every night for reasons like last night. He knows how to coach.

One other thing. I bet not one damn Miami fan went to the game last night to watch the Spurs. They went to see Lebron dunk. The only disappointed fans would have been Spurs fans at the game, until they had a close game that the Spurs almost won.

That many people watch the X Factor? I was forced to watch that garbage during an NLCS rain delay and wanted to kill myself. That show will make its viewership even dumber than they already are. God help us all.

How anyone can think any money was lost is beyond me. They had a good ratings share for the time slot.

Stern doesn't care about the fans, but he cares about the image and he felt pre game that this sort of thing will look bad for image. That apology to fans was just bS posturing all in the name of image. In the end we ended up with a far more entertaining game than we would have otherwise. Almost saw the unthinkable happen: Gary Neal out duel Lebron James

Confusion around NBA and league office on how Stern structures fine for Spurs. Some believe he'll hit organization, not Popovich personally.

How can Stern fine the Spurs or penalize them?

    They didn't break any rule.

A law has to exist before it can be broken. If Stern wants to try to change the rulings, have at it. But him doing anything against the Spurs would be completely unjustified, and if he tries, I would love to see them try to contest it.

So, Stern obviously wanted to show the whole public and people watching game on national TV how good, awesome, great, super cool his Miami monkeys are in comparison to Spurs, but of course Pop saw it coming and ed with him like a cat plays with mouse. Pop is the best! yo team clown Stern.
