I thought it was Sampson's knees. I think Houston rushed him back from a knee injury that should have knocked him out for the season in 87 and he was never the same player again. Though the Sampson comparison to Wemby is nuts IMO, only thing they share is body type. Sampson was an above average defender but Wemby has Bill Russell level potential defensively and is already way way better than Sampson ever was on that end. Offensively Sampson didn't have Wemby's jumper and was nowhere close to the passer Wemby is. About the only thing they have in common offensively is both being devastating finishers in transition. I watched Sampson's entire career and I just don't see him at all in Wemby.
yeah, i never agreed with the sampson comps. seems like a lazy comparison, imho.

You're right, my b. It was his left knee that he suffered torn cartilage in back in '87 and they rushed him back from it and he never recovered. He also had some minor foot and back injuries throughout his career, but his knees were the big one.

Wow, that's a wild coincidence running into Vic.

Didn't Eric coach in the NBA for a little while? I remember his name, don't think he was an NBA head coach for many seasons, though? I know he now coaches college. Is he a well regarded coach?
He's the HC at USC now but yea he was the HC of the Warriors from 2002-04 and has been an Asst. Coach for multiple NBA teams over the years. He's stuck to college hoops the past decade or so though.

You’re stuck in the 90s, brah. Unless you’re a unicorn like Jokic or Wemby who can create for themselves and for others, you’re not winning an MVP as a big. If you expect him to get into the paint, catch an entry pass, and throw up a hook shot, AND be in the MVP convo, you will be disappointed. That type of game makes him a support player, dependent on guards to get him the ball. The only post player to win since Duncan was Joel Embiid, and the voters got ripped to shreds for that. Jokic should be sitting on a four peat. Jokic is an offensive hub, as Wemby could be.

BTW, Wemby shot 42% on pull up 3s last year, and that includes the logo shots.
Jokic has a post up game and can back down a smaller defender if he get switched. Wemby cant. Wemby cant even solve dillon brooks guarding him.

yeah he needs to be much better at punishing teams guarding him with a guy a foot shorter than him. this is something KP did for Boston which was the big x-factor for them in their le run. pretty sure he was the most efficient post scorer in the league that year because he would basically save it for when teams guarded him with smalls

I'm trying to think of any power forwards who played for SA that could be helpful. Antoine Carr maybe? No. Let's see. Sidney Green. No. There has to be someone. Thinking...

Doesn’t mean he had a post game. LeBron even struggled, and with a body much more suited for it than Wemby. Ironically, it was Dallas that embarrassed him into developing his post game in the 2010 Finals, which would have been his 7th season,

The only post game Wemby needs is being able to maintan balance when he gets the ball. He can shoot over anyone with ease and all those shots around the paint are high percentage considering his shooting touch.

Multiple sources describe a widely circulated rumor that Kevin Garnett allegedly said "Happy Mother's Day, motherf***er!" to Tim Duncan during a 1999 playoff game. This comment was particularly hurtful because Duncan's mother passed away shortly before his 14th birthday.

lol can't picture wemby trash talking at all and maybe he should get some edge but hope KG doesn't rub off on him too much

But seriously, that KG mid range game with the high release point on the shot would not be the worst thing for wemby to copy in terms of reducing wear and tear on our franchise guy. Feast on low contact scoring with unblockable looks mixed into a variety of overall offense to bulk up numbers and draw defenders out for our three headed playmakers to attack.

I’ve been saying for a while now that wemby is KG 2.0, not just his offensive game but especially his defensive game. KG has elite lateral quickness and I’m not sure if wemby can just pick it up.

On O instead of a mid range game wemby can do the same stuff but from 3, that passing and driving ability will open things up for him.

I know this is spurs land and Duncan and Robinson reign supreme, but there isn’t any other player more suitable than OG to be a model for Wembys game.

They won't be as high percentage as actual shots at the rim, though.

He couldn’t post up smaller players. It’s why they lost in 07 to the Warriors.

He'll get to the rim with his face up game, I don't consider it post game.
And obviously with his verticality and easy dunks/layups.
