My response (post #5762) refers to your comment (post #5761) about a Forbes article that Pavlov posted:

The one from PBS with CBO listed as the source comes later from Splits (post #5770).
Am I missing where with the tax deductions are being factored in? Especially SALT deduction that goes away. If youre in a high property tax state, you are getting screwed.

Obama thanks himself in speech in which he takes credit for economic growth under Trump

Former President Barack Obama thanked himself in a speech Tuesday in which he took credit for American economic growth occurring under Republican President Donald Trump.

Obama told an adoring crowd at a Chicago climate summit that despite “resistance at every step of the way,” his administration’s efforts to fight climate change resulted in a better economy.

“As we took these actions, we saw the U.S. economy grow consistently,” Obama said. “We saw the longest streak of job creation in American history by far — a streak that still continues, by the way.”

He then added a zinger: “Thanks Obama.”

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause — and soon laughter.

As Obama silently waited for the reaction to die down, he appeared to wink at the audience.

    What about the economy?
The stock market has gained about 30 percent in value since Trump’s election a year ago, the Washington Times reported, gross domestic product has increased more than 3 percent in both of the last two quarters and the jobless rate has dropped to a 17-year low of 4.1 percent.

Trump has received credit for an economic uptick this year from many business leaders and economists due to his loosening of regulations and move to cut taxes, the paper added.

U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Illinois) said earlier this year that Obama’s administration was the first to never have a “whole year of 3 percent growth” — a claim PolitiFact rated as “mostly true.”

Here’s the clip of Obama’s speech. The relevant portion begins just after the 4-minute mark:

The federal government is not responsible for high state taxes - that is the fault of the politicians that the people who live in that state vote in. Why should someone who makes $x in CA pay less FEDERAL income tax than a person who makes the same amount in FL? That deduction in effect results in people in high tax states giving that money to their state instead of the federal government (which encourages the state to raise taxes even more). So many of you are into this "paying their fair share" - well, now, all those in CA, NY, etc. will be paying their fair share of federal income tax like the rest of us - if you don't like it, take it up with your state and local politicians.

ALL states will be hit with the SALT exemptions. And SALT is just not income tax.

Note how mortgage and other interest are not being touched, because those debts are sources of $100Bs of revenue for BigFinance, BigFinance is untouchable. To the contrary, BigFinance is being unleashed to start up predations and other fleecing of citizens.

note that SALT deduction is claimed in many red states, too

ICE Arrests Illegal Alien Who Complained to Media About Girlfriend’s Deportation

In an ironic twist of fate, an illegal alien who took to the press to complain about his girlfriend’s deportation is now facing deportation himself.

    At least they’ll be reunited.

Baltazar “Rosas” Alberto Gutierrez, a 35-year-old Mexican national, was arrested by federal immigration officers after he spoke to reporters about the cir stances surrounding his girlfriend’s deportation, which he called “su ious.”

The illegal immigrant told the Seattle Times on Sunday that U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement officers arrested him last week. Gutierrez, who is a clam harvester, alleges that the feds specifically mentioned two interviews he gave about his girlfriend.

Gutierrez says he did not reveal his real name when speaking to the press, preferring to go by his nickname, “Rosas,” instead. He believes he was targeted in retaliation for the interviews.

“You are Rosas,” said the agent, according to Gutierrez. “You are the one from the newspaper.”

“My supervisor asked me to come find you because of what appeared in the newspaper,” the agent said in English, according to Gutierrez, who related the interview in Spanish. According to the paper, Gutierrez does not speak English fluently.

Following the encounter, the agent arrested Gutierrez and placed him in detention, where he now awaits deportation back to Mexico.

In a statement to Seattle Times, ICE spokeswoman Lori Haley says that the agency does not have vendettas. “We don’t retaliate,” she said, when initially asked about Gutierrez’s arrest.

“ICE conducts targeted immigration enforcement in compliance with federal law and agency policy, and at times, exercises prosecutorial discretion when the cir stances of a particular case have extenuating factors like the care of minor children or an alien’s medical condition,” said the agency in a written statement later.

Gutierrez originally brought his story to the press after his girlfriend, Gladys Diaz, was arrested in June. He says ICE agents arrested her after they responded to her Craigslist ad for a piñata she made.

The story garnered significant attention in the Pacific Northwest after Gutierrez relayed his version of the events to the Chinook Observer and the Seattle Times.

Gutierrez’s detention follows in the wake of the acquittal of Kate Steinle’s killer in a San Francisco court on November 30.

This chart is like common sense - what's it's supposed to say/mean? Do you understand what a progressive tax is? That people in higher brackets pay the same amount of their first dollars? Or proportion - that a flat dollar ($100-$500 or > $500) increase/decrease is a much smaller percent as one's income gets larger? So yes, as one has a higher income, the percentage of those people getting tax cut > $500 will increase? The only line that is perplexing is the $1mil and over but it probably is because most high earners live in high tax states (SALT).

And the most senseless column is the middle one - Tax Change Less than $100 - Change could be tax increase or decrease. Of course, < $100 is going to affect more people in the lower brackets more than in the higher.

The important thing is that a high percentage of the middle class (defined by Pew Research as $42k to $125k) is getting > $500 tax cut.

Trump's approval rating jumps to 45 percent, highest since September

President Trump's approval rating increased to 45 percent in the first week of December, the highest mark he's received since September, according to a Morning Consult/Politico poll released Wednesday.

The majority of voters, 51 percent, did not approve of Trump's job in office. But his approval rating in the Dec. 1-3 survey is the highest since a Sept. 29-Oct. 1 poll in which he was also at 45 percent. He has not been higher than 45 percent since early July. He then dipped in August in the wake of his reaction to violence in Charlottesville, Va.

Three-in-five voters saw Trump as reckless and 54 percent said he is sexist. Another 47 percent of respondents said he is racist, but 39 percent said he is not.

Forty-six percent viewed the billionaire businessman as knowledgeable, and 44 percent disagreed.

The online survey was conducted with 1,997 registered voters nationwide and had a 2 percentage point margin of error.
