No, they've just had to be incredibly superlative in their performance to Overcome that rigging. Rigging the game via the refs can do a lot to influence the outcome, but it can't Guarantee an outcome. The Lakers of Kobe's time just have to beat the refs as well as the other team.
For example, refs can keep their whistles silent when Kobe's on the attack, but, when he can hit amazing shots Despite all the pushing and hacking going on, then the best they can do is limit his scoring opportunity to the made basket without a bonus.
They can also blow the whistle unfairly to slow Laker momentum and give the opposing team more chances to come back or win, but they can't prevent a choking at the free throw line in the closing minutes, and lots of games have slipped away right there.
I think a statue of Kobe in front of the arena should feature hands pulling on his jersey, slapping his head and hanging off his arms as he goes up for a jumper. Nothing would better describe how it is for him and the will to win past it. |
Can't tell if this is a sarcastic post, but this is what I'm used to - that we play 5 v 8, but still beat the odds, overcoming major trials and tribulations in the process! Still happy to see most of the posts on this thread are logical. |
