I think she's searching for Desmond.
I don't know what's in the hatch but I can't believe that the Spurs lost a lead with 20 seconds to go in a Game 7.
My guess is that she (Penelope Widmore) had some sort of transponder/signal attached to Desmond's boat for his race around the world. She did this so that she could keep track of him and find him if he ended up needing help. When he crashed during the race, the electromagnet on the island interefered with the signal and they lost contact with the boat. The magnet is/was also responsible for interfering w/ Desmond's boat navigation systems during the race, which caused him to crash. Once they ceased to push the button and Desmond made the choice to turn the key and "end it". That destroyed the magnet and allowed the signal to go out w/o interference. Those two guys were probably hired by Penelope Widmore to scan the entire globe and search for the signal. My guess is that they are at one of the poles, (i.e. Northern or Southern) to track it. I'm guessing they are where they are b/c of the Earth's magnetism as well, but I am not sure as to why. She has spent the past three or four years searching for Desmond, and now has located his boat. This should be a very interesting turning point. I can't wait until September.

That's a nice theory, but weren't they tracking electromagnetic anomalies? They made a reference that they missed an event earlier (my guess: Sept 22, the day of System Failure and the plane crash).
Now, how Pen knew to track these anomalies is a mystery, but this is the first time we have evidence of the present world outside of the island.
More useless observations: the others maybe the "good guys" after all. They have not killed anyone yet (although they came pretty close when they attacked the raft and shot Sawyer). Several of the survivors have killed people - it will be interesting to see what the "Others" want with Doc, Kate and Sawyer, esp. since they've had plenty of times to capture them in the past, but didn't.

Dammit! Now I have to go and watch the last minute when I go home for lunch, just to see what exactly was said. But I think the guy on the phone called her and said "We found him" or something very similar. Of course with this show you never know who "he" might be. The "Others" included Ethan, remember him talking to "Zeke/Tom" in Claire's flashback episode? He killed at least one of the plane crash survivors when they wouldn't give Claire back to him. Then there was Godwin, who killed that dude that Ana-Lucia had put in the cage in the ground.

okay, I'm sitting at home right now and the guy who calls Desmond's GF says "I think we found it". My guess is that its the boat, but once again with this show you never know what it could be. I don't get the whole elctromagnetic anamoly thing, but I'm sure that question will be answered while ten more arise.

It was refering to the anamoly. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if the Island itself isn't lost and maybe thats what she's looking for considering how much her family had to do with Dharma/Hanso etc.
