But Dana must be fairly thankful of this Mike Vick and and NBA mess. It totally blew over the Sean Sherk / Hermes Franca fiasco. Toward the end of summer there is so little sports news that the media would have been all over this this Sherk/Franca mess. Granted the mainstream media fairly ignores MMA but since it was negative news, they would have bit on it.
Agreed on Vick. And don't forget Barry Bonds and Tim Donaghy. Franca and Sherk wasn't even a blip on the radar thanks to those three men. I'm sure Dana is counting his blessings on the timing. MMA/UFC would have really been dragged through the mud if the 3 major American sports were not experiencing such unusual and major controveries at the same time.
Gawd how could I forget Bonds when I typed that.....That would have been a perfect lead into to the UFC steroid issue.

I think the Fedor backlash may be new fans who have sudden expertisesm (spelling I know I know) but then again, people are getting sick of him not fighting and who he is fighting.
I don't think it's new fans. Most new fans really don't know who Fedor is, let alone know it's been close to a year since he has faced real compe ion.
Yeah but new fans still see a thread about him daily and then start talking out of their butts after watching 5 seconds of a HL reel on youtube. There are many "Fight Finder" experts out there, quick scan of a record and your an "expert"

Mark Hunt would do a lot of damage in the UFC HW division. And he was top 10 when he fought Fedor...and he gave him a good fight.
10-11 months is close to a year...8 months is closer to a 1/2 yr
