You refused to agree with him that the Suns are something special, the likes of which the League has never seen, since Run TMC never happened. You also refused to agree with the notion that tv ratings are of primary importance when analyzing and discussing a particular team. That's called being "owned" in da_smegma_fan's book.
well, in that case, i really did get owned...![]()
Two copies, eh? One to read, one to soil?
Also, if it's ratings that the League needs, then let's all pray for a Bucks-Rockets Finals.![]()
God I feel for dsf. Even on his home turf of ratings smack, he can't put together a factually correct argument. Bucks-Rockets would trounce Suns-Celtics for viewers and interest.
LOL da suns fans is still up on this. GET OVER IT, the SUNS suck and will never win a championship with that team. Why are you still on this board? If your team is soooo bad ass why don't you guys have a good message board? Go infect that one and stay out of ours.
All of this discussion about ratings seems really silly in the larger context. Every sport except the NFL is posting record low ratings.
I suspect that the ratings system is fundamentally flawed and cannot model the impact of cable, the internet, DirecTV, etc. The Nielsen net isn't demographically accurate in the first place, and it does not account for people watching games on the internet, in bars, etc.
My understanding is that it does not account for "time-shifting" either. That is, if you Tivo a game and start watching it 15-20 minutes later to skip commercials, the Nielsen box doesn't count that. Someone who knows more about this will probably correct me, but assuming this is true, ratings for sporting events are meaningless. EVERYONE I know with a Tivo does this.
Well, Reggie, you and I don't care about how many viewers tune in, we're both hoops junkies. We'd much prefer to talk X's and O's. And truth be told, stretch and I were just beating dsf over the head with his ratings talk.
But you're telling me dsf can't even cling to his "Suns are the most popular team based on tv ratings" argument? Don't take that away from him, Reggie, that's all he's got. We'll be having to talk him down and plead with him to take the gun out of his mouth.
Still, if his argument is that a Suns-Celtics Finals would be most beneficial to the League in terms of generating interest in the form of viewers, I'm sorry, but I don't think 250 million people will be watching it, like a Bucks-Rockets Finals would generate.![]()
And I think that it would be extremely beneficial for the health of the League to expand its popularity beyond North America. Somebody really needs to register da_bucks_fan, so we can get sermons on how the Bucks are saving basketball and we need to pray for a Houston-Milwaukee Finals to "save" the NBA.
Speak for yourself![]()
True. A Houston/Milwaukee matchup would generate a lot of buzz in China, but even they would eventually get bored of watching that type of garbage basketball they play in Texas.
I mean, look at these numbers!!!
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/holli...26league%3dnba
Are the teams in Texas having a contest to see who can put their fans to sleep the fastest?
Do we honestly believe the Chinese will care anymore than we do once the novelty wears off?
The Suns and Celtics, on the other hand, have the potential to bring basketball back to the mainstream and also demonstrate to the world how great this game can truly be! Demonstrate how the game was MEANT to be played!
Nash and KG both going for that ring! A matchup of Magic vs. Bird proportions! Could basketball be "king" again (as it was in the early 90s)?
Between the record low ratings and Donaghy scandal, Im not sure what could be better. And it has a good chance of happening! Lets all keep our fingers crossed.
- DSF
Dont hate Texans. Go ask Brent Barry how he thinks the game was MEANT to be played.

Brent Barry would also rather have 4 rings playing on a "boring" team, as opposed to no rings on a "fun" team.
yet again, notice how DSF's posts never seem to use the words "winning" and "championships". We see where the priorities lie here.
If we get a good Suns/Celtics matchup in the finals, we'll all be winners!!!
Discuss.
As many wars as I have had with Mono I would have to say that our general dislike for DSF cancels out everything else. Keep up the good work Mono lol.
winners how?
If we can get you to stop posting on this SPURS board, we all will be winners.
Gotta get back to work...think about what I said Texans.
Go ahead and play in traffic while your at it.
with the lunch hour almost over, i'd figure now is about the time they'd let you take a break from the drive-thru window.
Ok, I'll discuss.
You're a complete and total moron, whose only slightly redeeming quality is that your nigh-incomprehensible stupidity makes most of us laugh, because the alternative is crying, with our heads pointed skyward, "Why, Lord? Why do you inflict this torture upon us?"
Oh, I understand now. The "ratings" talk is more bearable than the "boring" smack, anyway.
On a more serious note, that whole Tivo thing just occurred to me. If that is correct, then someone needs to revamp the Nielsen system.
Based on my limited experience with it as a participant almost twenty years ago, I don't understand how anyone could ever rely on Nielsen ratings or spend advertising money soley on that basis. Just for example, we used to write down our favorite programs, even if we didn't actually watch them that week. If a show was tanking, we would sometimes mark that we had watched it, etc. My family couldn't have been the only one...
250 million people would watch Houston/Milwaukee. You can't say the same for Boston/Phoenix. Oh wait, they're not Americans, so they don't count! You should get a job with the Bush Administration with that mindset.True. A Houston/Milwaukee matchup would generate a lot of buzz in China,
The Texas Triangle all feature great teams that are entertaining to watch. The Suns don't have a monopoly on anything.
Basketball is only becoming the most popular team sport in the most populous nation on Earth. There will be a steady stream of Chinese players coming to North America.Do we honestly believe the Chinese will care anymore than we do once the novelty wears off?
Ah, I see, white Americans = mainstream. A quarter of a billion Chinese people and expanding basketball's popularity beyond North America doesn't count according to da_suns_fan logic. I think da_suns_fan is either a racist or an imperialist, probably both. Definitely a re .The Suns and Celtics, on the other hand, have the potential to bring basketball back to the mainstream
