I know Great Barrington well and it is extremely hard to imagine any scenario on this earth in this small town that would require cops to roll out like they're going to war.

It’s really striking how irregular the bands of mostly men conducting federal immigration enforcement are. They seem to have no particular uniform, they wear a variety of different agency initials on their tactical vests, or none at all, they’re inconsistent about displaying a badge…

Conservative PAC raked in donations from Hindus—then trashed them after the checks cleared

    ...

However, Conservative PAC did not appear to spend any money it raised to benefit the Hindu community—or on any political campaign.

The PAC collected $55,901 in donations. Its expenditures went to just two different things: A social media marketing firm owned by Parra and a VIP table at a fancy Republican gala.

To add insult to injury, the PAC’s owners spent Christmas week heaping abuse on immigrants from India, casting the community as outsiders who would pollute native American stock.

The Conservative brand of businesses, owned by Jake Little and Greg Disser of Georgia, described itself in 2024 as a “marketing firm that works to support Cons utional rights, freedom from tyranny, family values, and Christian morals.”

The enterprise’s network of social channels all use the catchphrase “Reject Modernity. Embrace Tradition.”

The brand includes ConservativeOG, a verified gold-check X account with nearly a half-million followers that promotes affiliates for a fee.

    ...

The ConservativeOG account called Krishnan a “gremlin,” asking of his headshot: “I mean what the actual is this thing?!”

During the several X Spaces that followed the loss of its badges, Parra, speaking from the ConservativeOG account, made the organization’s nativist position clear.

“We don’t want ethnic American stock to be replaced by foreigners,” he said.

The Hindu donors to Conservative PAC seemed unaware of Parra’s anti-immigration views, which matched the official position of the Conservative franchise.

Masked security forces captured an opposition leader in the coastal province of New Jersey as regime officials continue their months-long crack-down against pro-democracy elements in the embattled United States. The arrest comes as the regime issued calls for summary detentions without trial."

Rule of law is ‘endangered,’ chief justice says

Chief Justice John Roberts described the rule of law as “endangered” and warned against “trashing the justices,” but speaking in Washington Monday he didn’t point fingers directly at President Donald Trump or his allies for publicly excoriating judges who’ve ruled against aspects of Trump’s agenda.

“The notion that rule of law governs is the basic proposition,” Roberts said during an appearance at Georgetown Law. “Certainly as a matter of theory, but also as a matter of practice, we need to stop and reflect every now and then how rare that is, certainly rare throughout history, and rare in the world today.”

As many legal experts express grave concern about Trump’s attacks on law firms and with several federal judges advancing inquiries into whether the administration is refusing to comply with court orders, Roberts took a longer-term view Monday. He blamed schools for shortchanging civics education and leaving students with little understanding of the structure of U.S. government or the role of the courts.

“That’s really too bad,” the chief justice told graduating students at the law school. “We’re developing a situation where a whole group of young people is growing up having no real sense about how our system of justice works.”

    SOAK THE POOR

During a House Ways and Means Committee markup, Representative Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) called out House Republicans for proposing a tax bill that raises federal taxes on Americans earning less than $30,000 a year — while giving massive tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations. Citing data from the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, Gomez highlighted that by 2031, individuals making less than $15,000 a year would see their federal taxes increase by 74.3%, and those earning between $15,000 and $30,000 would see an increase of 20.6%.

Gomez condemned his Republican colleagues for pushing a bill that hurts the very people they claim to protect: “You have no shame when it comes to hurting working men and women in this country. I was someone who was never supposed to go to college. I worked at Subway. I worked at Target. I made $700 a week — not from 9 to 5, but from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next day. And I had zero health care. And you expect people in that position to believe you're helping them? That billionaires deserve more help than they do? That’s your logic.”
Data from the Joint Committee on Taxation’s analysis of the Republican tax bill.

Republicans want to make it easier for Trump to break the law

"the law protects, but does not bind Republicans; whereas, it binds but does not protect any who oppose Republicans"

Now is not the time to limit the ability of federal courts to enforce their judicial orders. But in light of dozens of federal courts finding actions by President Donald Trump to be uncons utional, some House Republicans are trying to do exactly that. A provision in the proposed spending bill would restrict the authority of federal courts to hold government officials in contempt when they violate court orders. Without the contempt power, judicial orders are meaningless and can be ignored.

There is no way to understand this except as a way to keep the Trump administration from being restrained when it violates the Cons ution or otherwise breaks the law. The House and the Senate should reject this effort to limit judicial power.
