So TORCON looks to be pretty much the same as the SPC's forecast except they extened the range out to 50 miles so that they can produce bigger numbers and scare more people. This is the kind of that makes me hate TWC.
No idea what the TORCON is but it sounds like a stupid measurement developed by a private company such as the weather channel or accuweather.
The SPC has far western Kentucky in a high risk for today. Thats basically within about 50 miles of the mississippi and it drops off very steeply as you head east. High risk translates to about a 30% chance that there will be a tornado within 25 miles of any given point in that area.

Yeah, the TORCON is a DR Greg Forbes (TWC) invention, I do believe
Here's video from Brandon Ivey, the meteorologist who rides in the TIV
It looks to me the exact same as the SPC data except that if you extrapolate the distance from a center point to 50 miles. You allow a greater number but the exact same risk. Really I don't give a about 50 miles from any given point but. 25 is pushing it but that has more to do with the resolution of our forecasts. We want the distance to get smaller in order to increase the accuracy. Doubling it serves no purpose other than to artificially inflate the numbers.
Obviously you'll watch more if your number is higher. Its a crock of .
A ratings gimmick, essentially. Color me shocked![]()
Find the helicopter footage IMO. That was gold.
Yep. Tune in to the Weather Channel! You're a TOR:CON 9 tomorrow in your viewing area! Also LOL at their whole Great Tornado Chase thing they got going on. Trying to coattail Storm Chasers.
I will say that their coverage of Joplin and what happened was very, very good on Sunday.
Here's the KFOR helicopter footage from yesterday:
Can't Be Faded: here's an example of 'dumb chasing'. These guys were in an SUV. They were way too close.

Damn lucky to be alive, honestly.
wish they had that amazing chopper footage in high res
aggiehoopsfan, why do you want torandoes to touch down and get annoyed when they dont?
As long as its in open land who gives a ?
there are residences and property scattered all over the place. i dont think he wants anyone hurt but any tornadoe is dangerous, and once a it touches down in open land it could move to inhabited land or gain strength and really up. it's like yall are rooting FOR tornadoes![]()
People like to see tornadoes. People don't like to see tornadoes destroy homes or hurt people. That should be obvious. I really think the last person on this board who should be questioning the ethics of anything is you but what makes it even dumber is that no one here has control over what tornadoes do. People here ARE rooting for tornadoes but they're not rooting for tornadoes to hurt anyone.
Storm chasers do more for storm warning than any other group of people and they are responsible for saving lives each year. The professionals who do it gather a lot of valuable data.
damn brah, you been a little edgy these last few days
really?
there are professionals and there is aggiehoopsfan and the 20 or so other amateur storm chasers he saw yesterday just getting in the way hoping for MORE tornadoes to touch down just so they can take video and get a "rush"
I'm not calling out anyones' ethics
have family in arkansas that lost their house, all their horses, and their two dogs.
just funny when aggie and others get upset that MORE tornados arent touching down.
anyway........
some Twarnings already up in MO. ChaserTV.com has it's streams up and one guy is right on one of the warned cells
